Dark and Darker

Blocking spells with swords.
Whats your opinion on being able to block spells with a long sword. Personally; maybe a few of the spells like actual projectiles have a small chance of being blocked if your skilled enough, but blocking something such as a curse or any kind or anything similar should only be able to be blocked by a shield or ducked. Blocking a warlock curse with a longsword is def the most unrealistic thing i've seen in a game ever.

Honestly the crystal sword being able to block magic projectiles would make a bit of sense imo, or perhaps a perk for Wizard or Sorcerer or something that would allow for that as a unique feature (hell it could even drain the spell to restore casts/cooldowns depending on which class they give that to).

The Longsword though...I mean aside from maybe Ice Bolt I don't think it would help much, though I do remember managing to parry an arrow once by sheer dumb luck and the guy freaking out because of that.

You can parry projectiles with the longsword but good luck. The hitbox for the projectiles are smaller than the spell effects by quite a bit.

I've seen a few brave souls try to use spell reflect with their blade to do it and its pretty much a meme montage.

It makes sense, you can't cast a curse on a sword and it effects the user, it just wouldn't make sense, If you shoot a sword with an arrow, it wouldn't hurt the wielder, so why would a curse. Your logic is flawed.

If that's the logic you're going to use, then curses shouldn't work when they hit armor, either.
Touche.

exactly my thoughts, if you can curse through armor why not be able to curse through a sword. but by that logic you should be able to curse through a shield too? i think only the shield should block curses, a sword should not be able to block curses, unless it was a crystal sword which makes a bit of sense.

parrying projectiles makes sense though cuz theres a physical object you are blocking. doesnt mean you should be able to actually parry attack off them, BUT blocking/parrying a curse should not be a possible thing because curses are not "projectiles" per say, they are curses.

with blocking being a thing now with C-sword, i want them to come out with a new unique drop that does something like "debuff the attacker for -50% magic resistance on successful blocks for (x time)" so it could lean people towards trying to block more or something with it. considering how op fulgor or strombringer can be, and longswords already having a repost....it could be the equivalent to it, but just a really strong counter attack.

It is not foolish in any way to have fantastic design elements adhere to a sense of reasonable logic that suspends disbelief. People like you who say "the thing we're discussing isn't real, therefore I can dismiss all discussion about it" are the foolish ones.

Space alien invasions aren't real either, but somehow everyone understands they shouldn't be arriving to Earth in sailboats.

Well, spells are not direct attack on the mind, like they are in 40k, they are physical and blockable.

my friend, the longsword has a very small block hitbox, so for me to be hitting someones longsword while their are blocking is just pure luck (unluckiness) its hardly anything to do with skill issues. As for the difference between curses and spells. Well you should do a bit of mythology research because they are two very different things lol. If my post is foolish, then the entire game is foolish by your logic and reasoning.
i block spells with my longsword all the time, you take splash damage from AOEs but it does work just like a shield. THE LONGSWORD BLOCK PREVENTS HITSCAN FROM BEING APPLIED TO YOU JUST LIKE A SHIELD. if you are failing to block spells, it's literally a skill issue
3000 hours btw
How about no because you're a long sword noob and that weapon is already far too OP with it's unique abilities as it is
