Dark and Darker

Dark and Darker

S6 Player Numbers are Concerning
Why is it so low? Like Hunt after a long time dipped by 75% but now is rising again. Dark and Darker seems to be hemorrhaging players without any sign of improvement and unlike Hunt there are so many queue.

3 maps (3x)

Normal mode
Solo/Duo/Trio
0-125 (3x)

High Roller
Solo/Duo/Trio
125-224+ (3x)
225+ (3x)

Adventure mode 1x

That is 13 queues multiplied by 3 maps. That 39 queues. The population has dipped to low 20 thousands. This also divided across 8 servers. Not equally obviously as EU and US house most the player base most likely. So let's make a conservative calculation. 20k / 312 = 64 players. Now I am not sure how long a match lasts and with the continues dungeon how it works, it does seem like the population is a bit too low for this many queues.

A game like Hunt just needs to worry about team size (Duo/Trio), PUBG region, solo or team, public or ranked, Tarkov just day or night + region. All those games have a higher player count (Tarkov not sure but probably) and all of them have less queues.

I feel like this much flexibility is not healthy for the dungeon experience. What are your opinions?

Because it´s a ´hardcore´ game (read the Steam page description). That does not appeal to the masses.

Edit: The addition of a true PvE mode is going to bring more players in.

A few faults with your logic.

#1 There were 60k before while it was even more hardcore than it is now.
#2 Tarkov is way more popular and it's a "hardcore" game. I know we can't see number but viewer counts on Twitch can help that. DnD only has 9k now as of writing this and Tarkov has 16k. Both are hardcore games occupying there respective theme (mil sim shooter/dark fantasy dungeon crawler).

I honestly don't think PVE will boost the numbers tbh but we will see. It's def a good thing but with the number of game modes, I think the game does not have the play pop to have a good experience.
Well speaking on the PvE side, they have seen 6 new purchases as my entire group has jumped in, tried it and enjoying it for the PvE aspect alone. Not an attack, we are literally enjoying the game, tried it before and we suck at PvP (skill issue, we know) but enjoy the game for what else it offers.

Are we considering the lobby numbers being below 10k to be the root of the issue?

Because I'd wager the market being disabled is why that's lower, the dungeon numbers seem to be around the same they were last season more or less (maybe minus the people with brainrot who only played <24 Goblin Caves to boss/spawnrush).

We don't have people just sitting in the market buying and selling things 24/7 to fluff those numbers up (or the market bots which probably exist).

I don't think it's as low as 10k yet. That 20k I mentioned 70% of it is in dungeons like you said. Speaking from experience, I felt like some maps and regions are very empty. I feel that boils down to not enough people during certain times.

If I add 1 more gripe, in Arena you get to play against the same people as they are the only ones your MMR pool. Like when you get into the mid 2000s. I think the population is just too low to support this many game mode options. But that's my experience, maybe it does not apply to your region and settings.

The arena's play rate ramps up as the season goes on iirc, though I'm not interested in the Arena in the slightest personally.

As for the maps, I'd hazard a guess that some feel more dead due to not having much by way of quest objectives at the moment (at least nothing that isn't completed in a few runs), also the fact that Goblin Caves are no longer the designated stomping ground map like I mentioned probably spread the playerbase out more as well.

IIRC they were thinking of some method of addressing the region issue in a QnA from a while back, but I can't for the life of me recall what their idea was.
I'm not playing because I was expecting partied instances for pve dungeons, which is common for MMO's. If it's a public dungeon, then there's competition and it completely changes the vibe. We're like half way there, I guess, so I'll keep waiting.

Good to see smart people at those forums. Totally agree - I don't play it yet for 2 reasons personally. The one you stated and another one is linked to it. Loot has no meaning with the gear score restrictions.

I'm sorry there's exactly one way to get Troll's Blood and ores, I guess.

I'm more talking about the people who used it as a discount arena.

The bossing issue needs to improve in my eyes, not be quite as effortless as old GC but still less RNG reliant.
19k people in game an hour after you posting this idk seems fine to me.

ah... yeah, that's fair.

I am pretty sure I said that 20k is low in my post. How is 19k fine?

If you read the part about "10-14k" that was about "in-dungeon" versus total number in response to Aldain.

Either way, can we do the bare minimum skimming. Otherwise it just sounds silly.

1) Tourists, and now most of them are gone.
2) You can't say that, because there is ZERO verifiable metrics we could base that on. You can only say its more popular on the basis of it being N'th boring shooter and plain shooters are always popular.
