Which is a really silly way to approach the issue currently as a player can attack you at the round start and die to you and then report you for it. Instant bad karma.
The Karma mechanic is broken rn for sure.
Another option would be a system to detect who threw the first punch as it were, like a "Traitor" debuff that remains after you hit an ally repeatedly, which could maybe turn on reflective damage back at the Traitor for attacking allies and/or massively reduce damage on "team mates" from a Traitor.
Said debuff could also prevent allies that hit you back from getting said debuff, and dying with the Traitor Debuff would prevent you from giving any karma reports that match and prevent you from being revived that match.
The debuff idea is immediately a griefing tool by walking in front of your attacks at any given time.
I'm talking like 3 hits in a short period, besides that is still a better safety net than the current state which is abused just as much if not more since it has no setup that distinguishes between aggressor and self-defense.
I mean repeatedly doesn't matter much. They can actively force you to kill them by getting low hp and walking in front of you. Debuff doesn't do anything and this works *right now*.
You'd have to find a way to 100% show that the damage is intentional and no automated system is going to be able to do that reliably. Best bet is to have recording software on standby like Medal or Shadowplay. Get the solid proof and report it directly.
I've also been complaining about the current karma for a while, but lately I've noticed an interesting new trend: I've met some red names who have been tearfully asking me to help them become white again. Because, they are being hunted, and that's no stupid joke. I was told of a new phenomenon of players who have made it their goal to hunt players with red names.
At least for some players who have killed other team players, this seems to be providing some motivation to turn white again to avoid being tracked down by amateur “witch hunters”. Really interesting.
