why are wizard spells so weak?

it literally takes everything in my arsenal to kill maybe 2 skeletons and then i spend most of hte time running until someone finds me and pvps me cause i literally cant meditate

Mobs normally have a fair bit of hp, you only want to use magic missile on them. Pretty much every other spell is PvP.

ive reached level 9 without a single successful extraction now. Just wondering if it ever turns around. I literally am unable to gear without getting pvped at the extraction or dying from multiple mobs in solo. Wizard just seems to suck.

ya its not fun. i came across a guy sitting, hit him with a hellfire and 2 curse of pain with torture mastery to get my health back, i then hit him twice with the quarterstaff. he stood up hit me one time and i died, spectate mode showed he had 0 damage done to him.

Haste needs to be instant or something. Literally any class can catch you and just one shot you. Its just dumb.

Id suggest not starting with wizard as their strength is killing players, their weakness is PvE.
If you dont already have a good grasp on the game wizard is just a struggle session. Once i learned other classes and went back i was surprised how powerful it felt when facing off against other players.

Wiz is one of the strongest classes right now, but is high skill ceiling, more gear dependent and more team oriented in PvP.
Mobs have decent magic res, so In low low gear/normals using spells on PvE is not worth it at all. You're better off just bonking with staff perk, and maybe ignite. Once you have mid/decent gear switch to crystal sword.
In general you want to be very conservative with spells on PvE. Spells are mainly used for PvP and once you have decent gear, to take out (sub-)bosses and mobs in inferno. Otherwise just melee.

If you're doubting, watch Kenknobi or Jaygriffyuh play some wiz.

Are you kidding us? The spells are strong enough. And if you've gathered enough magical power, you can kill an entire party almost single-handedly.

Conclusion: The spells are strong enough. No change necessary!

I never had problems using Meditation. I've used the build in both solos and groups, sometimes even use it mid-fight if I have a solid ranged team to cover me. it's one of the most oppressive builds in the game right now when used properly cuz you basically never run out of spells if you know what you're doing.

from what you've written it sounds like you're not using your spells correctly though. with Meditation build mobs should largely be dying to Magic Missile headshots alone, you don't rly need to use other spells for PvE clear. if you're running Meditation I would strongly suggest running MM also, especially if you're newer.

it's been mentioned in the thread already, if you want to watch some Meditation gameplay JayGriffyuh, whereas KenKnobi runs Intense Focus which is definitely a more off-meta build. but the point is there are many ways to play wiz and I wouldn't say any of them are weak right now. it's in a good spot at the moment

i main wizard. yeah pve as a wizard stinks, it definitely is much more rewarding played in a group, kinda like bard except bard is actually fine in some solo pvp situations. if i were you, i'd practice running meditation with magic missile, invis, arcane mastery too. invis incase you aggro too many mobs, good for repositioning, and plus every magic missile cast plus at most a swing of the crystal sword is enough for most of the base (non-elite) mobs. check out jaygriffyuh play wizard. dude's a magician
