Dark and Darker

Fighter
Can I get some pro fighter advice? Every time I'm forced into PVP it seems like there is next to nothing I can do.

I am using sword and board set up. (mace is better than arming sword though IMO) At least with squire gear. So I am using Barracade, Shield mastery, counter attack, and Adrenalin rush perks. Using sprint and second wind skills seems like a must have over the other skills, at least for solo play. Also I am carrying a crossbow.

IDK I figure staying away from plate and trying to get str/agility bonuses over anything else... Which kind of stinks because wearing plate is the alure and strongest part of being a fighter. It kind of feels like not being specialized in any way is good to start out but lacks in competition. Any tips would be welcomed.

I probably just suck though but I'm stuck with one guy till I can afford the whole game.

i can tell you fighter is a pretty decent class not the best but definently good. when you struggle, you have not enough playtime yet, people play solo fighter to the highest rank.

I've had fun on my fighter, I use fire cuirass, armet helmet, light gauntlets, light foot boots, loose trousers, longbow and longsword with Defense Master, Sword Mastery, Weapon Master, and Swift. Same skills, sprint and second wind.

Lose barricade and adrenaline spike. Unless you have a massive amount of PDR its not going to last long enough to matter.

Take sword mastery and weapon mastery. Arming sword is best choice for a ranged one hander. Secondary weapon take a survival bow if your aim sucks, and a longbow if it doesn't.

If its a caster, aggressively pursue with bow. You won't catch them in plate with your melee unless they really screw up, and if you want to survive longer than a few seconds take dark plate armor so you have some semblance of magic resist going on. Consider other sources of magic resist as well if this is a recurring bad matchup for you, because the caster (especially warlock) is the natural counter to us.

If it's a melee, always try to pre-activate your second wind before taking damage. It won't bring it back fast enough mid-fight to matter if you're taking hits, but it could make the difference if its already ticking before you dive. And if they back up so you can't dive, bring out the bow and punish them for it.

To be clear, if you're going to go sword and board, get that plate going. You're going to be slow anyway so you might as well double down and get good at it. If you want to go lighter than that, consider ditching the shield and going for a slayer build instead.

I'm not sure what PDR is but I will try playing around with perks. It just seemed logical that If I was going sword and board to focus all skills onto the shielding. I don't really intend on using a longsword...

I have to unlock those bows. Crossy is all I have unlocked for right now. Is the weapon mastery perk so I can use longbow? I thought I could use a survival bow naturally so I might try that. I was watching some guy use a short bow pewpewpew and was like. Damn... I wish i had one of those instead of the Xbow... Just having a fast firing ranged option might be what makes it for me. Allowing to put pressure on from a range and not take 5 seconds to reload completely vulnerable...

I tried ranger for a little bit but that made me loose everything I had gained on my previous fighter and I was not doing well in comparison to the fighter so i just went back to it. Getting the full version asap but it might be a little while still.

Thanks for the tips and I will see what I can figure out from here.

PDR stands for physical damage reduction. it exists as a value as a percent and is largely derived from your armor stat. for example, "I have 35% PDR. I have 35% physical damage reduction."

the logic in what you're saying isn't necessarily wrong. the PDR cleric takes defensive perks like Perseverance and Protection from Evil to supplement their bulkiness. the problem is cleric defensive perks are currently overtuned whereas fighter defensive perks are undertuned.

I believe this will be addressed relatively soon. regardless, there's nothing wrong with playing PDR fighter especially if you're just playing normal dungeons. as a new player some perks may sound better or worse than they actually are so it's worth listening to other fighter players re: this. as mentioned if you're going down this road you'll want to be particularly mindful about locks and wizs, and honestly even spell dmg clerics

Well I just got my first PVP kill trading out barricade for weapon mastery and taking a survival bow. I figured maybe I would keep adrenaline rush and that was probably the deciding factor when we closed in. (fighter vs fighter) Taking sword master doesn't seem worth it unless you are using a longsword... IDK maybe it is.

I tired the re-curve bow too but I did not see any difference in draw time? Not sure why I'd take survival over re-curve... But I only played a round with each.

I will check that guide out. I like the mace over arming sword tbh. I think maybe it takes a little more skill because the swings aren't wide but I am comfortable using it already. I's say its better for PVE hands down at least. I will probably play around with a few set ups and maybe even a slayer build but that parry. X.X

Thank you guys!
