"Campfires? Screw that, too slow and boring. Mobs? Worthless, just outrun them this is a PvP focused game. Actual dungeon crawling? Laaaaame, where's the PvP?!"
This is why PvPvE games always struggle eventually, the actual crowd of people who want PvPvE are significantly smaller than the PvP only crowd who aggressively ignore and have borderline contempt for the vE aspects of the game, which leads to the devs catering more and more to them and stomping out the uniqueness of the game in favor of just another damn arena game.
thats part of the genre. learn to play it or dont
what dark & darker should do is add a wizard merchant who teleports you to an aether-realm to fight said mini-boss/boss with a gold cost for X amount of minutes and if you die, you die but don't lose kit. this would fill the lore friendly gap, be a gold sink (which they need), and give players the ability to learn the mechanics outside of having a constant threat.
unfortunately that is not something part of the game yet and it is what it is.
a full on pve mode with extractable loot is absolutely idiotic.
You shouldn’t fixate on “i’ll do a boss this round” before the round even started. You have to recognize the opportunity instead of locking on the idea beforehand.
In my experience, to do the boss, there is a few requirement to make it happen (on normal):
1. There should be plenty of dead players on feed
2. There shouldn’t be a player that kill more than 2-3 players (that means they are hunting pvp)
3. There should be noone killed by the boss (its an alarm that will lure players to the boss)
For higher difficulties, well. Thats not for everyone. There are heights to be reached, we shouldn’t flatten out the difficulty curve, or all the hardcore players will dump the game (i would do so). You should either trade the materials from market or keep attempting for that one lucky round. The game need a gearsink, otherwise everyone would max out the season in a week or so.
If you want to do the boss, be the group who get rid of competition beforehand. Or lock in on the idea, when you see, there are plenty of deaths on the map.
Also, most bosses are soloable. You can have two of your trio on lookout.
I think the PVE or PVEVP crowd is actually larger, they are just more casual, so they play less hours, they post less online, and they complain less, because they just move on to other games.
Sweats who invest 1000 hours spam the discords nonstop and the community gets smaller and smaller catering to sweats who just want to gank timmies while they fight mobs.
Ironically with the busted hit-reg Dark and Darker has pretty ♥♥♥♥ PvP so they probably should have just made a well developed dungeon crawler lmao
competitive gaming is that across the board bub. it's like that in all extracting looter video games, fps games, sports games, racing games, etc, etc. that is what the scene of competitive online gaming is.
if you like pve in this type of game that is fine, but you then also must like the low skill ceiling, low loot rewards, and the nonsense that comes with that scene. for people who want to challenge themselves and continue to improve at video games, they choose pvp.
pvp is not killing the looter extraction genre, pve is as it has been proven with all games that have put pve into their extraction looter game.
