I really like arming swords and those first two can use them fairly well (though Ranger much prefers the bow).
The realistic top three? Probably Warlock/Druid and either Bard or Cleric, mainly because they have crazy amounts of self-sustain and utility.
Barb because i'm a barb at heart, fighter because I like shields and wizard because of the challenge.
I must say also, that this game is extremely enjoyable and very original, i'm very happy with it. PvP can be frustrating at times, but that's cool.
Cleric is just so good on his own for judgment / strike
Warlock is just a pve god
and bard is another pve god, while being a really good pvp
one great for healing
one great for screwing around
one great for unlocking chests and making mob moshpits
Warlock is stong in so many scenarios, healing, DoT, damage.
Druid healing, fastest class in the game, can scale the map or hide in small places, ignores doors. Zoning and cutting off people in fights.
Bard for fast melee, that hits hard, good luck catching them.

Heres 3 separate examples of why it strongly needs nerfing, specifically to the parry mechanic which other classes dont have. Essentially you cant beat them in melee unless they are bad at the game and dont know parry exists.
They can start by removing the parrying of arrows and projectiles completely, this isnt star wars jedis.
I like the mess around/sneak around classes, and built in lockpick/trap sight is a lot of fun. Turning into a chicken and crowing everytime I exit is a requirement.
Barbarian is pretty damn good though, I got forced to descend with my fresh level 1 Barb after my blue stairs got sniped in the last minute, and I still made it out. Just too tough.

You have to be close to them, and if you can't go close to them then you can't win.
So if you can't get close to them, avoid them :)
Fight in your own terms. Or else, you might not notice it but you're gonna be fighting in their own terms, and then die.
Avoiding is quite easy in this game. And even if a ranger chooses to track you down, simply amush it at a corner with your big axe. Works more often than you might think. hiding behind an opened door is very efficient if you can hide your axe properly.
