Dark and Darker

I don't understand the PvP , help?
I'm level 40, and despite being normally quite skilled at these kind of games, never killed more than maybe 6 people.

Every time I hit them in the head, multiple times, and they live. I am 100% certain they are head shots, with my Arming Sword. Yet when I get hit, half the time it's insta-kill from full HP or 2 hits maximum.

What am I missing? I don't get it.

depends on their gear versus your head shots do more damage but depending on their armor rating and your weapons capabilities from armor pen and your characters ability to do raw damage affects everything. this game isnt like your typical fps were a head shot is an insta kill or does 90% damage in one blast. example arming swords depending on its rarity level does around 26 damage versus a falcion that does 36ish or like a felling axe that does around 50 something damage. but then those weapons also have a armor penetration score which is affected by their armor. and dont forget your classes stats.
Arming sword is pretty weak weapon. Falchion is better. Mace is better. Axe is better. Spear too. Pretty much anything is better than arming sword, except daggers. If it’s two-handed axe or maul then it can be one-hit sometimes, at least with buffs and against non-plate armor (which I assume you don’t wear).

like you dont use arming swords with barbarian because that isnt his bread and butter you use 2 handed axes. if your playing archer range is the game dont rely on the arming sword as thats a last resort weapon use. mages bread and butter is magic and range the crystal sword and staffs are trash mellee option for them its just the OH NO!!! weapon.
I’m a bit disappointed crystal sword is such a trash weapon btw. Magic interaction speed absolute worst. Damage is both magical and physical but also means it’s affected by both resistances. Therefore absolutely low damage. Absolutely slow attack animations. It’s just the worst at everything.

Just because a build can make it hit hard doesn't mean the thing's attack/casting animations aren't complete ass imo.

even still it only benifits warlock not mage at all. maybe if they buffed the ice shield perk to also do ice magic damage with a crystal sword then it would be more viable. especially when paired with the ice magic freeze perk (with cool down of course) in effect.

Wizard's perks in general feel like they're just too all over the map.

Two of them effect Arcane damaging spells...but there's only Magic Missile, there's a perk dedicated exclusively to giving Icebolt a small root because there are no other ice damage spells, The 2 Fire Perks only effect Fireball, Explosion and the burn damage of Zap.

Hell two of the perks are specifically designed to trigger when the Wizard is hit and getting hit is the last damn thing any Wizard ever wants to have happen.

If there's any reason why Warlock is a stronger all-around class than Wizard it's Wizard's perk suite being just so...awkward for the spell list Wizards currently have.

that and his massive limited spell cast ability and how long it takes to regain them even with meditate mage is such a glass character when he suppose to be a glass cannon. sure if your in a team with a bard he can have a specific song to aid the mage but its sooooo UGGGHHHH!!!!!

Honestly the regaining of spells isn't a gripe to me, but I really don't get why Wizards get doubly punished in regards to PvE mobs which have both Magic and Projectile resistance (which as far as I can find seem to stack for some reason) which makes using magic on mobs situational at best.

I don't really get why Wizards get punished that hard in PvE when (mini)bosses aside a Ranger can kill things and recover arrows faster even with the Projectile resistance and no need to meditate.

thats what im sayen hes not just squishy, but for the few ways he can melee he has no strength nothing. as far as i know the mage can only use crystal sword worthless in his hands, the magic staffs that arnt usfull in close range, or quarter staff which isnt bad in the hands of a druid or claric since they have strength but worthless in the hands of a mage that get pretty much one shotted by all classes.

And even then the Quarterstaff is probably Wizard's best Melee weapon for dealing with PvE mobs, which is insanely sad (aside maybe from Ignite+Rondel).

I really do fear what Sorcerer is going to do to Wizard's already low play rate if it somehow winds up being better for PvE while still being comparable at PvP (sans buff spells).

either they will nurf the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of warlock or maybe they will do the smart thing and buff the damn mage.
