Troll/Cyclops room is too dark

the videos I have watched make it seem like the Troll's room is bright enough to clearly see him. I haven't actually manage to take him down as a solo yet but I pretty much know and handle his moveset now its just that when he moves into darkness (away from my torches) I die because I can't see what its doing exactly (and can't pull him back easily seeing as if I just move away he will just do his ''shout'' and mow me down). Starting to think it might be my settings but I am not sure... is it just me?
