the only things you cant put in a stash are supplied items like the stuff the squire gives you

You should have a yellow star at the shared stash, maybe you need two characters so it can work or something. Works fine by me.

How do I send items to it?
I've tried dragging items to the star, and every version of clicking I could think of.

You click on the star button to switch to the shared stash page. It works exactly the same as any stash page. The only difference is that it's accessible by all of your characters. If you have the Legendary status (the top left icon in the game menu should say "Legendary") and that's not what you experience - you should contact Iron Mace for support.

Make sure you're on the account you bought legendary on.

I worked it out. I can only access the shared stash from the stash menu and not while at a merchant.
This is because to use the shared stash I must drag an item from my character's bag to the shared stash. There is no keybind for this.
