"The Squire." An OP feature that you might have missed, both beginners and returnee like me.

Go to: Merchants, Squire, and "Base Gear" in top left. I think the more you play the more you unlock? But basically, you increase the basic stuff you can start with, for free. Every cloths slot? Done. Every potions and even campfires? Done. Spear for the druid or bow for the fighter? Done. Don't forget to press "Set base gear" in the middle, you'll have the items on your next run.

Have to add that to acquire some items there you need to build up reputation with corresponding merchants then, you won't have a spear for druid or a bow for fighter before that, as been written

Like, you want a bow and plate armor on fighter? Do woodsman's and armourer's quests (ones that give 25 reputation), to begin with

Yes the squire is great, because he doesn't charge anything, and you can strip out the bandages and pots, and set the gear again to stack up on those healing items (shssh)

Also to access more from the squire people need to do their quests. You can't access all the gear immediately when making a character

Squire is cool for a base kit but also silly. He invalidates all the other vendors. Why have an alchemist when the squire can give you 30 pots for free? Bandages same thing. Why have a woodsman when you get campfires and arrows/bolts for free?

I like the idea of starting with the right base gear you want, like a recurve vs. survival. vs longbow on the ranger for example. But everyone just walks in with 20 pots they got for free to every match. Its removing alot of the "grittiness" of the game and feeling like you need to work for things.

Being able to get a longsword as a fresh loadout is pretty good man.

Did the meaning of OP change over the years? Am I getting old? also someone already probably said this, too lazy to read, but its based on quest completion not play time.

EX: Finishing weaponsmith quests gets you weapons, finishing woodsmen quests gets you bows/crossbows etc. You get the point.

Ultra pro tip, if you have any items left over from the last run that are from the squire and you want more. Simply move the items out of your hotbar/where its equipped and re equip. Free way to snow ball potions, an extra hand crossbow, throwing knives etc W.E you need that he gives.

its intended, thats what I was just mentioning in above post. Its because escaping with the old equipment turns them into "handled" status and the squire now thinks youre out of those items again. The arrows come only with a bow tho, you wont just get more arrows without also getting a new bow.

its intended, thats what I was just mentioning in above post. Its because escaping with the old equipment turns them into "handled" status and the squire now thinks youre out of those items again. The arrows come only with a bow tho, you wont just get more arrows without also getting a new bow.

Something I learned the hard way when I entered a dungeon with only 6 reserve arrows after resetting every other gear slot.

You can keep squire gear in the pack on the character, but you can't place it in storage, it gives some message preventing that. So you can't horde 1000 arrows in your storage or something.

You have to escape a dungeon first before your squire gear is “cleaned” and only then can you put it in your stash.
Afterwards feel free to restock on squire supplys and start your free massive supply / arrow hoard.
