Rogue isn't easy to play for PvE or PvP if you ask me but they can play footsies with all the PvE and can assassinate wizards/warlock/rangers with ease once you get good at sneaking. They arent useless against the other classes either just try to stay away from barbarians.
I would like to see rogue be able to use invisibility while moving. But again, having a skill that everyone else can drink a invis pot for seems questionable, granted rogue can make their invis x3 longer with the extra skill slotted.
I think rogue should have the +hearing like ranger (or just move it from ranger to rogue), as ranger already has tracking footprints.
Unless someone is completely distracted, I don't enjoy rogue's daggers having no reach to strike someone vs. all the other weapons. I've had greater success solo vs npcs using rapier or shortsword.
Think rogue should have a 20% movement penalty reduction to armor skill when wearing leather armor.
I enjoy the no-noise stealthy footsteps... but do wish it decrease the agro range of npcs or didn't set them off completely (as a skill). It's annoying trying to creep around but still setting off all the npcs in a room lol. Think the rogue skills should be that stealth/crouch doesn't cause npc's to set off, and quiet footsteps applies to walking, not just crouching.
Hate to play as a camping rogue on HR, but it's almost comes to that to make it appear someone is entering an unspoiled room, where the rogue lies in wait in the shadows... a bit dull.
Indeed, being so weak and having no adventage is kinda BS. The invisible mode feels like a joke in so many ways and your short weapon range makes it really anoying. Additionaly you cannot even destory crates/boxes with daggers or degens.
And as you said, thief should be able to move past npcs without triggering them. And the invisible skill is worthless if the downside is that they dont let you use invisibility potions aside them. That nullifies the bonus and even puts you at an disadventage due to cooldown. Im sure if you got 3 invisibility potions in your inventory you can gulp down one after another without cooldown, while thief only got the one time that it can incerase to x2 of the ground time. Still only an adventage after the second time used. And you need to waste atleast 2 perks and one active skill on it If you want the full power of it you need to put all perks into it, so you put everything into that one surprize hit (which doesnt work on npcs, the moment you swing they turn and hit you quicker then you them). And after that swing its running away. And if you cant even sneak past not triggered enemys to do an attack on a player, everyone knows that you are in the room the moment a npc reacts to you.
So thief is basicaly, start round, stay exactly where you started, wait there the whole round and hope someone will pass by that looted a lot. Attack them and try to kill them, take their loot and exit. Sounds....boring.
So i rather sneak around myself and look for treasurer, but every step it will spawn a mob which you then need, depending on ther weapon, fight in a different way. Some npcs can be circled to kill, others will just roundswing, so its go in attack and step out of range asap, repeat. More than one enemy is barely a chance, best goes on ranged enemys.
Mages just know you there if you are not a camper, they will see that you waked something and will ranged attack you. Or use a speed spell to run away.
Barbarian will just go full in on you, 1-2 swings and your dead.
And so on.
If you're hoping that Rogues can just sneak into every place, take the loot, and leave the mobs behind, then I understand why you are having a rough time. That is how they are in some games, but not here.
If you are struggling against players, I again recommend watching some DaD rogue guides to learn the tips, tricks, and strategies on how to deal with other classes as a rogue.
GLHF, Timmy.
