Squire can just outright upgrade your starting gear for free if you just find it?
It was quite odd that you don't start out with shoes on many classes, but you can just by going to the Squire

It also allows to start with Potions and Bandages both for free

And you can add different weapon types instead of relying on some of the really bad starting options

All this just by exploring the UI

Cool? But a bit noobstomp-y

Also the more quests you finish for merchants the more the squire increases options and quality of starting gear. Wear a lot of cloth gear? Do the tailor quests and so on

While cool for progression, it kinda makes twinking quite easy no?

Sorry I don't know what twinking means, but if you mean overpowered compared to fresh players, not really as the gear stops at common rarity, white

White rarity is hardly overpowered, most players within the first 1-2 mins will find enough green items for white gear to amount to a wet noodle.

no? squire gives you a couple more weapon/armor types. still grey quality. doesn't change to green/blue or anything so no

Dunno, some of the base white variant upgrades are really good even without the green buffs
A morningstar for Cleric with the armor pen + blunt perk is already really good, and if a green item just and just puts you over 25 it doesn't seem worth it to need to put better armor on

starter gear is "noob-stompy" ? its for the noobs. pls dont suggest anything more for this game thanks
I literally go into games with medium armor as a fighter- simply because it lets me move faster, starting with "bigger" numbers isnt always necessarily good.
Start gear is still ass regardless you will find green 2 seconds into your spawn usually.
The game seems to be quite balanced with the initial gear you can unlock. I say this as a Wizard main that is supposedly a gear dependent character. I can build my character in such a way that I can have a comfortable amount spell slots/the ability to quickly recover said spellslots. I do have to replace a green item from the auction house every time I die though. Said green item gives me just enough Knowledge to run my under 24 gearscore build.

I'm having a blast, personally.

Currently trying out Warlock at a 11 gearscore with 145 armor rating
Falchion/Shield and a 30 damage Staff
Since for some reason it doesn't exclude Barbarian plates which don't have as much negative movespeed since the class itself is already at a -ms, you can multiclass into a stat brick with not much of a consequence.
And with 11 gearscore at base it leaves room for a good green weapon upgrade

If the Squire can get me any closer to a setup like that for no exchange other than quest progression, it's a huge leap compared to the people I'm being matched with already.

The green items in my inventory are not that good of an upgrade to jump me up to 110+ gearscore matches

Sure green and blue items might be statistically better by a small margin, but stacking even a couple of those and you're not even being matched with me anyways lol

Oh. Maybe you do have a point. I bet melee is really strong in pvp at the early game, which would make killing new players a relatively quick endeavor to an experienced "twink" I suck at pvp, and I chose the highest skillcap character to play. So I doubt I have an anywhere near accurate assessment of all the gear.

I have dropped people with blues/purples with greens/whites, TL'DR skill matters a lot more.
Gear makes everything easier sure, but if you get outplayed, or make a missplay, no amount of uniques are gonna save you if the enemy exploits it.

Yeah I do like the fact that you can actually approach each match with an actual build
A lot of the extraction genre just outright removes the progression from you and resets your playstyles

And it is really easy to get going with a twink setup, so it is balanced around a kingslayer aspect when you find another player minmaxing to gearscore 24
Okay so for a quick update I did find a Green Visored Sallet while wearing a Grey one

For a whopping +11 gearscore I get:
+2 Armor
+1 Agility
+2 Physical Power

Say I equip that and a weapon, I'm already at the +25 power bracket
With such minute upgrades it most definitely is not worth it before you get a full gear set of each tier

Whooptedoo, I could have what? +21-30 stats which is big, or never have to be matched against those people and just abuse the base stats from grey gear until I can vendor myself to a high-roller run

Note, it doesn't even account character level, so I can get free +3 perk slots and higher tier spells against complete newbies
