PSA: Use the Squire
Found in the Merchants tab, the Squire lets you set up a starting set of gear that is often better than whatever the default is. This includes bandages and potions as well as potentially alternative weapon and armor options based on whatever class you are playing. The quantity (not quality) of items goes up as you increase your affinity with the other merchants.

Is this for f2p users too or only people who bought the game?

It’s a baseline merchant that anyone can use.

This is so baffling to me and not only in case of this game. What happened to people clicking around menus, reading tooltips, visiting wikis?

apparently it ruins the ''immersion'' and they don't want to go on external sites.

they want the hand holding and yellow arrows.

Because vague and occasional outdated data are great for new players.

Most of that info is literally in the game. Like you can go click on 'Merchants', click around a bit, find out what they do and BAM - you now know that the Squire supplies you with basic items when you die (or if you just happen to use them up).

I'm tired of games pandering to dumb people. This isn't a Paradox game, you literally just need a basic level of reading comprehension.

You shouldnt have to go outside the game to learn about a game. There is not explaining things and then going out of your way to not explain things in a game. Why do potions and such not default to being on you but you can go to the squire and add them? Seems like something that changed on what you can start with and they just forgot to update the default loadout.

try and error, f around and find out, it is not that hard, "Why do potions and such not default to being on you but you can go to the squire and add them?" because it is a game mecanic

The game mechanic is not to default your character to having items on you that you can go to a squire to one second in and default it? That I highly doubt is an intended "mechanic". I would bet money that once the game is 1.0 (if not before) you will either default with that stuff on or there will be something in-game to guide people to the squire to add it.

It would be suitable if the squire would be mentioned with a "link" to it when you queue and it warns you to make sure your loadout is correct.
Right now you either find it by looking around (it isn't at all obvious that you would go to a merchant to set a default loadout) or you hear about it from someone else.

Can we get a pin on this? Like... Seriously.

Yeah, really feels like it's people that have already been through the trouble of learning this and refuse to accept that it's a poor design or at the very least needs something in-game.

I would never look at merchants and think one of them (as you said) would let me change my starting items. I would expect that they are all....well....merchants.

I heard about the squire from a random guy in-game. I ignored all the merchants because I had no money and was learning the game. I had 0 reason to click on them all and look into them because they are called merchants and I have no money.

People like you are literally the reason why UX became such a big deal, because you literally lack any and all kinds of curiosity and basic impulses to explore features of the software you engage with. I swear to God, this is such a nothingburger of a complaint.
