Dark and Darker

What's with the negative reviews?
I haven't kept up with the drama and thought this game was beloved last time it was on steam. Some people say it is f2p, some say it isn't, just wondering what is actually going on, how far the game has come since then, etc. It was deeply flawed but still a blast back then, so what changed?

Shady tactics, that's all. If you want to buy the game, you will have to do it in a way Steam won't cover you. Same thing CoD did with MW2 and 3

bad regional pricing, non-refundable, the "play for free" is more feature limited than the free playtests, there's practically nothing in the free version, and a hard learning curve.

This is basically the reasons why. The lack of regional pricing and the white-items-only killed the game TO ME.

People are entitled idiots, that's what happened.

I Bad reviewed cause there is not point in playing more after the normal dungeon, i cant play with my premium friends, the game is free, so i reviewed as a free game, locking people to play, (this could be called a demo),
I dont mind the rest, paying for slots its ok, paying for the trades its ok,.

I played normal with 2 friends that bought the game, i didnt bought, so i cant play with them except normals, but also the thing is that the loot you get goes to trash...there is no point in having that loot, cause your locked as a free to play, better loot? sell it, you cant use it.

And people can say, "then why dont you buy the game", well i could but why did they even put the game free, for people to try and to get more people into buying the game?

The game is in early access we see what will happen

The vast majority of players only play Normal, because High Roller is full of cheaters and has people with Best In Slot gear compete with players with green gear. The only thing you are REALLY missing is having access to more character slots, but you can just make another free Steam account to override that.

People are blowing this out of proportion, especially that the game is literally free. You spent zero money on it.

That's how demos work, yes. They are giving you the opportunity to see if you like it enough to buy it, and they aren't limiting your time on it so you can take all the time in the world to decide. This is even mentioned on the store page.

"We hope that this version will give players a chance to experience some of what Dark and Darker has to offer, and to give players who have not played since the playtests a chance to see what's new before they dive into the full edition."

This is not meant to copy the Fortnite formula, its not that kind of game and it does not want to be. They have no interest in doing MTX more than necessary to maintain operational costs. You buy the game and for most people, that's it.

The description on the Steam page is crystal clear about it:

FREE-TO-PLAY VERSION!
The Free-to-Play version allows players to create one character and play Normal mode on all maps, complete quests, and build a stash of loot! Players who enjoy their time with the free version and want to experience everything the game has to offer can upgrade to the full version for 15 Redstone shards. The full version of the game includes access to the High-Roller mode, where players can equip their hard earned gear to take on even more dangerous dungeons and up the stakes. Players will also gain access to the marketplace where they can trade with other adventurers, 9 total character slots, and the Shared Stash!

We hope that this version will give players a chance to experience some of what Dark and Darker has to offer, and to give players who have not played since the playtests a chance to see what's new before they dive into the full edition.

This normal mode was added last year, because there was a huge debate about "Timmy's" getting pwned. They then added normals as a level playing field mode, separate from HR (highroller). It was never meant as a way to gate new players from experiencing HR content, which seems to be way it's been spun on Steam.

I am okay to see a limit so new players don't get crushed but personally I think the normal maps are too limited, I suggested them to have a map for beginners and some normal maps for green and blue gear level this way there is still a purpose to the loot before risking it all in high roller and new players can get a chance to loot without dieing, they just need to find the middle ground, they seem to have replied through twitter about that and will check into making the free 2 play experience better.

Steam users don't understand (or care) about the history of why it is the way it is. They are perpetually convinced that every new game which comes out is trying to screw them over somehow.

Everyone can only use common items in normal raids so u won't get one shot across the map

U can make a new character as much as u wan't, no lvl, perk or ability restriction. Everyone can only use common gear in normal raids for balancing.

U get accesd to 3/5 raids. High roll is for people who know a lot about the game, that want to play rank etc. and have only epic and better gear.
