I would not call Dark and Darker "finished" it's available, but the UI is bad and the gameplay feels clunky. Graphics and effects are mostly poor for a game asking 30$, which by the way they do that outside of Steam to avoid regional prices and the Steam fees. People have reported 72h waiting after its purchase so Dark and Darker is not finished either.
As far as I know you could not even connect yesterday to the game so "playable" is also not the word to use on a game with long queues and bad servers like in this case.
Don't get me wrong, I loved to play when it was free on Steam before they removed it, but the game is undeniably rough. And not worth 30$.
Dungeonborne is objectively superior by just looking at their store page, the gameplay will be similar. Of course their success will depend on pricing and final execution but I will not play a game that claims to be "Free to Play if you Pay 30$"
Final test is 3rd July for Dungeonborne. So expect it soon.
Aside from that has some balance issues at the very beginning because you spawn with a few enemies and you are very weak even at level 5 a random flying thing can hit you and remove most of your HP while your mana also does not last much. But this is also me playing a mague and not blocking hits.
But the game is definitively better than Dark and Darker, more polished on the game options and its UI, etc. I would not pay 30$ for neither Dark and Darker nor Dungeonborne, however.
Game developers need money to pay their bills and employees. I will tell you a well hidden secret: They get this money by selling games or game content. Mind busting, isn´t it?
So? what is your point?
If they want to sell garbage for 30$ I will not buy it so they won't get my money, they can do what they want with their "game content".
Dark and Darker is not currently a game that should be charging 30$ and Dungeonborne
- at least for me - needs to improve the performance before I consider purchasing it; assuming it is not going to be Free to Play that is.
As for skins and micro transactions, I pass. I will not buy a game that relies on these to actually play.
You are free to throw your money the way you want. There is plenty of garbage you can spend 50$ in, if you don't care.
I like dungeon crawlers, but it always feels like so many of them lean too hard on the old Ultima style grid based game design, which don't get me wrong I enjoy that style (Etrian Odyssey is one of my favorite franchises for example), but god I wish there was something like DaD that wasn't strictly on a grid or trying too hard to be like King's Field.
There seems to be rumors of censorship going on currently.
Least that's what one post and several reddit comments on posts pointing out issues are showing so far.
And with the heavy handed "We're looking out for YOU guys Ow<" attitude i can't help but be cautious now.
I'm kind of out of the loop with all of that at the moment.
Goblin dongs, clearly.
Quick, inform Grummz. We must take to twitter and start a crusade over nothing immediately! #letemdangle
I don't understand why people think that looks like a "mobile" game, it is much more polished than Dark and Darker in many aspects.
Oh sorry, Dungeonborne and their Goblin dongs.
Got an issue with how the playtests were unstable and / or class issues? They'll just tuck you away. And people aren't taking the last point of their pricing post of them taking a jab at DaD's shard system in good taste, they got a 0 tolerance policy for pointing that one out or at least they did for 1 day.
