Dark and Darker

Why can't I bring gear into the dungeon?
One of my favorite parts of DnD was finding crazy gear in raid, and being able to risk it the next game. High roller never felt fun to me because it was too stressful and I rarely extracted. Entering each game with a "free kit" removes a lot of fun and tension that PvP and the game as a whole used to have. Does anybody else agree?

I agree it does remove a lot of the tension that comes with the possibility of losing everything.

On the other hand nothing stopped people from queuing up in purple gear and stomping everyone with common/poor in earlier playtests which sometimes felt like you were just handing your gear over to them at this point.

They're having trouble balancing gear sets. People who understand the stats and are lucky enough to snipe/find good gear (even if low rarity) are so much stronger than everyone else that the matches are basically decided with your gear and not with your skill. So... they removed it. Maybe permanently, maybe they'll eventually figure out how to balance it, for now you can go for matches where everyone has trash gear or, if you're playing the paid version, "normal" matches.

What kind of gear can you bring into normal matches? What's the point of finding top-quality gear if I can't ever use it?

I mean they do have a whole gear rating system going on, but it seems to be insufficient (or likely disconsidered) to properly balance out matches. Maybe because it didn't have enough players during the last few play tests.

normals only get to bring white and below gear tier, so that makes greens basically fodder to sell to merchants

Then what do I do with purples if I can't even use them?

You can bring common gear to normal matches, that would be any gear without any additional stats. You'll be able to use the higher quality gear if you have the paid version. Idk, tbh it feels like a very agressive and borderline abusive commercial bait. Or maybe it's just to flood the low level dungeons with noobs for a while again, idk.

Nothing, if you can't use it during the current match, don't even bother picking it up.

So, what, a white mystic vestments, heater shield, flanged mace etc?

Can paid players still use their purples right now?

You can drool over the thought of how many healing potions you can buy with the gold from selling it.

Yeah they can. Not on f2p matches but they can.

Damn, that's awful, and high roller cost gold to even enter (and given the wiki description it does not look fun) :S

Starting to think I may just wasted 30$, game was so good at its first passage on Steam, wtf happened? Where's the shrinking zone? :'(

That's some rather aggressive paywalling.

The game requires you to reach level 20 to access high roller which requires you to pay gold to play with no gear restrictions with stronger NPCs and better drops

and high roller is the mode that requires paying, so calling this game "free to play" is a bit of a stretch, even though a lot of players play normals only
