Impending Nexon lawsuit resulted in DMCA takedown until resolution.
Nexon claims they stole assets.
Dark and Darker devs say that this claim twists the truth.

Suit will likely last a VERY long time and will not see the light of day on Steam unless the suit is resolved in a way that allows it to be reinstated on the Steam store. Right now, there are a ton of people playing by purchasing the game from the Dark and Darker official site (now launched into Early Access).
It's likely that since the original launch of the game is on their own client/servers with a bulk of their supporting players, it could remain the primary community source to play with (since they officially "don't know" if they can integrate people who wait for the game to launch on Steam with the current community of PC players. They have stated that they will do everything they can to do so, however, other games that tried to retrofit a Steam account with pre-existing non-Steam accounts haven't been very successful (Albion Online, Guild Wars 2, etc).
If prospective players are concerned that the game could get decommissioned due to the lawsuit, history has shown that technically gifted community members tend to create private servers for games this popular, although this tends to be a (legally) gray area.
IMO, if it's an issue of using models or skins that are similar to what Nexon claims that it owns, replacements could be made as part of satisfying the suit, although likely Nexon will pursue damages and/or coverage of their legal costs.
Thanks for the info, yes that's sad, the game is promising, i enjoyed the tests...
I didn't think you would say you buy ANY AAA with the 50-70 pricetag. I usually only buy <$20 as well and i always have something to play. I'm just a bit of a fanboy for Dark and Darker. If I hadn't tried the playtests for free I would probably be waiting on it, which may be the right choice. The devs are trying to get back on their feet after all this legal trouble and roadblocks it seems, things are a little uncertain, its hard to tell.
