saying barony is a PvE version of Dark and Darker is like saying an oatmeal cookie is a healthy alternative to a chocolate chip cookie.

both are kinda similar, but hit completely differently.

Right, right, the PvE only people need something that isn't even remotely difficult.

i agree eating a cake is too much work, cookie on the other hand just take one bite.

The Legend of Grimrock games are really good dungeon crawlers. It’s grid movement instead of open but full of NPCs, loot to find, secrets and puzzles. You just kept exploring over extracting but if it’s PVE solo what’s the point of extracting? This is a serious recommendation, they are great games.

Legend of Grimrock games are indeed great dungeon crawlers, but the combat system is quite different from dark and darker so it can only satisfy a portion of those who want a PvE mode.

Yeah but if a couple people here are new to dungeon crawlers and were interested enough to try them I’d be very happy that they have two great dungeon crawlers to play while they wait for the next play test. The combat is different but it’s a least a little similar. You have 4 characters but they are basically the dark and darker classes and you dance around on a grid instead of free flow. You can even do the dive in dive out like you do on these NPCs.

No coop though. Also the drop in and do a few quick matches with the diablo style loot is appealing.

My issue with Grimrock is that it just feels very...old, and I don't mean just old as in years I mean old as in it feels old in game design choices as well.

I enjoy grid based dungeon crawlers every now and then (hell I'm a a huge fan of Etrian Odyssey) but Grimrock doesn't really hit the right marks for me.

You know an old game I only recently (to be specific about 3 hours ago when I saw this video) learned even exists that actually does do something that feels almost in line with Dark and Darker (minus the loot element)? Eternal Ring, an old PS2 era Fromsoft game.

https://youtu.be/Vt916NXbvoE

Obviously it's a rough experience overall and has that classic Fromsoft clunk and early PS2 era graphic design, but it has a lot of interesting mechanics that I'd love to see someone refine and try doing.
