I enjoy grid based dungeon crawlers every now and then (hell I'm a a huge fan of Etrian Odyssey) but Grimrock doesn't really hit the right marks for me.
You know an old game I only recently (to be specific about 3 hours ago when I saw this video) learned even exists that actually does do something that feels almost in line with Dark and Darker (minus the loot element)? Eternal Ring, an old PS2 era Fromsoft game.

Obviously it's a rough experience overall and has that classic Fromsoft clunk and early PS2 era graphic design, but it has a lot of interesting mechanics that I'd love to see someone refine and try doing.
