Ranged weapons are way too underpowered.
There are just too many penalties applied to ranged weapons. Attack speed is slow, there's a damage fall-off, it's not hitscan, reload takes forever, and on top of that the damage of each arrow isn't strong enough. If you devs hate ranged weapons so much, just delete it from the game. Or delete Ranger class and make bows and crossbows a secondary weapon choice. I just don't understand why this game wants to punish ranged weapon players so much.

The longbow is very strong. And there are perks to speed up your fire rate, along with the abilities to fire 3 arrows quickly or 5 at once in a spread. You can also take perks to increase your damage with ranged attacks or headshots.

I will agree that the starter bow for rangers is painful to use, but kill one or two skeleton archers or goblins and they almost always drop a better bow. And once you get to level 5 and have access to a second perk its much more fun to play.

I struggled to extract solo as ranger for quite a few runs, but once I had a few longbows in my stash I was getting out pretty consistently. Most classes have terrible starter gear, but once you've got some better items you realise the class is fine, its the starting gear that sucks.

I dont know what this guy is talking about. When ranger has it good than the other classes.

as a barb ranged weapons destroy me 85% of the time, in the goblin caves at least. With a team its a different game

Lots of geared fighters I run into is running a bow as their secondary, even though it costs them a perk slot, 10% damage penalty for being a non-native weapon, and not having any of the bonuses or skills that rangers have. Either for being able to take any PvE (skeleton archers, mages, etc) which give melee classes a hard time, or for the low-risk damage in a PvP, ranged is anything but underpowered. Ranger's starter bow is just really really bad, and until you get a second perk slot your DPS is trash.

Once you get more levels the damage is still bad but bearable, and with a decent bow you're a force to reckon with. 4/6 classes are melee focused and you get to attack them outside that range, the other ranged being Wizard which can realistically only hit you at close-mid range. Other than them and the Rogue, you can usually just outrun the other melee classes and shoot again when you've made the distance and recharged your skills.

well in dungeons and dragons 3.0-3.5, you could be a dual wield melee ranger, with ranged as a secondary. they could also use light and medium armors with d8 hitdice, making them fairly tanky.

You must be atrocious because I decided to try out rangers after dunking so many as a rogue main and...♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are rangers easy to play and strong.

Even with the default bow their cooldowns are so damn low you're just constantly triple shotting mobs or shotgunning them. It's wild. And god forbid you find a longbow jesus christ you can hit like 100+ damage in one skill.

Very fun class, glad i'm their natural weakness cuz I feel sorry for you normies without stealth.

Rangers are currently in the running as one of the best classes because of pvp and their survivability. Individually, and by itself, ranger is still high tier, and with a party is probably the best class in the game next to rogue, barbarian, and maybe cleric.

In order. 3 tap spray at me. Then 5 tap shotgun. Congrats you fired 8 arrows in like 2 seconds. The class is stupid. It is toxic early with bear traps and free ranged damage.
Its not the strongest class because Armor destroys rangers late, but it is by far the most frustrating to play against.
So my idea. Barbs and clerics early are the strongest class. Clerics are needed in every fight every instant every thing.

The amount of "Long bow" arrows i have to put into fighters is atrocious, and they dont even die before they just rush and crush you. I hit one with 2/3 of my Quick shots, an extra 1 normal shot, and 1-2 arrows from my Multishot. Something just doesnt add up, and he didnt even 2nd wind. Like how am i supposed to kill someone before they even get remotely close if they can eat that many of my arrows. Fighters need to be nerfed, theres no reason a class with full armor minus a chest plate can run, chase, swing and hit, as fast as an unequipped ranger can move. Makes 0 logic.

Until you have no more doors to close and youre forced to fight in melee range because fighters and barbs can chase you while youre unequipped and still catch up AND swing on you.

There is a player called SpudHunter who plays ranger and plays solo all the time. He eats squads for breakfast and does high roll dungeons and hell dungeons solo.

In conclusion you are trash at the game.
