I will agree that the starter bow for rangers is painful to use, but kill one or two skeleton archers or goblins and they almost always drop a better bow. And once you get to level 5 and have access to a second perk its much more fun to play.
I struggled to extract solo as ranger for quite a few runs, but once I had a few longbows in my stash I was getting out pretty consistently. Most classes have terrible starter gear, but once you've got some better items you realise the class is fine, its the starting gear that sucks.
Once you get more levels the damage is still bad but bearable, and with a decent bow you're a force to reckon with. 4/6 classes are melee focused and you get to attack them outside that range, the other ranged being Wizard which can realistically only hit you at close-mid range. Other than them and the Rogue, you can usually just outrun the other melee classes and shoot again when you've made the distance and recharged your skills.
Even with the default bow their cooldowns are so damn low you're just constantly triple shotting mobs or shotgunning them. It's wild. And god forbid you find a longbow jesus christ you can hit like 100+ damage in one skill.
Very fun class, glad i'm their natural weakness cuz I feel sorry for you normies without stealth.
In conclusion you are trash at the game.
