Dark and Darker

Gear Score
We need a Gear Score system for this game.

Aim : To stop players from going full purple +3 all stats every item in to low roller dungeon, stomping new players, under geared players and wiping the lobby.

Proposal : Add a number based system to each item, could be simple to start for example , Greys 0 , whites 1 , greens 2, blue 3 , purples 4. (Could go further than this for each specific buffs , as +all stats is obviously the best, so an example would be + all stats could be +2 for each +1 so a +3 all stat green chest would have a gear score of 8)
Once a gear score limit has been reached (For the party) they should only be able to que HIGH roller dungeon. Simple.

This is a hardcore game, go get your hand held elsewhere.

It just be like that.

You probably killing other poor starter souls. That's no big deal.
Timmy barbs usually, but juiced fighters, clerics etc. Wizards and Rangers are the easiest, just leave stealth and rush them

I consistently get doinked by polearms though, F

Hardcore game? How exactly is it hardcore?
Hand holding is asking for a "More" fair fight?

I imagine you have no real opinion of the discussion here?

I will take it you are against the idea of matching players based on gear.

Death Resulting in the loss of all your stuff is basically HC, at least you don't loose your character.
yeh im against gearscore this isnt WoW, bring in what you think you can get out with and more, otherwise..bring basic ♥♥♥♥ in. Risk vs reward, butt clenching moments where you hope you arent gonna die and loose all your stuff, people crying for class balance and making things fair are hilarious, get over the fact you are not keeping all your stuff forever in this game or leave instead of creying for changes that will ruin the game

Well i think by now we've had our answer. The asymmetry is important for the theme of the game. As the game is developed further, inter-player balance will become a bigger focus. The devs have also indeed stated that balance isn't their priority at the moment, so we'll just have to trust that they can figure it out as it becomes more relevant. Not really much else to be said about it, in my perspective?

Oh , i did not realise they was not aiming to balance?
A couple of hotfixs to balance recently though, and adding the solo dungeon kinda tells me different?

Maybe we do have an answer?
What is your answer though, Gear based matchmaking? Yes or no?

IMO i'm not in favor of gear based match making, no. Having some soft thresholds based on a kill-to-death ratio would maaaaybe be reasonable. It really is hard to say though without seeing the final product though. It's been said that high quality gear is more abundant due to the playtests being so short, so it could very well end up with purples being almost unseen except for the exceptionally skilled players, and even blues being more rare.

I think either way though, the best way to handle this is to alter the way you play yourself. If someone isn't as good at PvP and don't have the greatest kit, they should instead be focusing on avoiding combat by finding hiding spots and using the map to their advantage. Escape is the goal, not combat. Prioritize that over anything.

I agree it is difficult to invision without having the final product, but i feel matching players based on gear is a less intrusive way than a Kill/death ratio, i imagine this would lead to the best playing against the best, which noone wants.

Players still want to be able to play against worse / better players, but be on the same playing field.

Fair point.
However i am not asking for 100% equality / fairness, just less of a gap from, complete new player to full purple +all stats 3 man team.

it doesnt take skill to murder lowbies with a fully geared character. it takes gear, which the noobs havent had time to acquire yet. if it snowballs, which in my experience it has, they go 20-30 matches without getting anything except murdered. then if they do extract, they were so careful in not getting ganked they barely escape with loot. again, the people who say "its all part of the genre of game"...this isnt a genre of game...its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bullying and preying on the weak. thats not a game, its pure cowardice. gtfo. so i would say, at least for new players ONLY, item rating based matchmaking would be good, so new players can actually experience the game, instead of looting 2 chests and a skeleton body before some geared powerhouse smashes their head in.

i believe you, but the combat is also very buggy. my ranger at level 2 bought a bow from the shop. i fought another ranger in goblin caves, after i had taken down 3 goblins without getting hit, so i had full hp. i see another ranger, so i arms up emote. he shoots at me, so the duel begins! i bodyshot him 3 times and headshot him once, then died to one single shot of his. when i spectated him, he still had all 4 arrows in his body and was at 50% hp. i checked his gear, mostly blues with a purple bow.

That happens too, personally I just take the good with the bad

I understand that I'm not going to win every fight, and that gear CAN make a significant difference; however I don't believe it decides the outcome of a fight.

I've recently been playing Rogue a lot, and I find that by being a sneaky, agile, slimy little rat bastard I can consistently 1v2, and maybe even 1v3. Yes, if a barb smacks me in the face, I'm gonna die. Yes, if the wizard I didn't see kneecaps me with a fireball, I'm gonna die, but ultimately I've found that superior positioning, a little surprise, and quick action is enough to win MOST fights

ive said it many times among other posts. i prefer balanced combat, so its skill vs skill. this game is currently gear vs gear. and if you read the post, youd see. it takes 0 skill to stack gear and slaughter newb lobbies. the people who think this is ok arent gamers. i could bust every single one of these people up in a game of chess. but thats because its a balanced 1v1 pvp boardgame. this is just collect gear and slaughter people who dont have gear. i cannot judge, because it is alpha. i can only state opinion.

Literal skill issue.

Just use positioning and ambushes, you'll kill fully juiced people EZPZ
