I have described it to friends as similar in feeling to Skyrim's combat (Morrowwind like Karl said too I imagine). The slow/clunkiness/body blocking & pushing... it's all part of the "charm" and unforgiving nature of the Dark n Darker experience... you just gotta get in there next playtest (Feb 6th) and try it out!

Yes there is? Its just simple melee swings, left click to swing, hold left click for combo, some weapons have a right click attack. Very similar to vermintide, but nowhere near as complicated as Chiv / Mordhau

It resembles neither of those two combat systems in any form other than you're using swords.

It's more like a slower vermintide. Each weapon has it's own specific pattern of attacks.

You don't choose the direction you attack from.

There's parry & riposte mechanics, only on spear and longsword that I'm aware of.

Melee is very bad, slow and boring. Block and attack are about the only two mechanics and they're implemented in the simplest form. There's directional attacks but they're part of the combo, meaning you don't really get to choose what direction you attack from with each swing. A comparison as others have said, it's basically Oblivion but considerably slower. If you're looking for interesting combat, you're not gonna find it here
