Dear god, the circle feels so out of place
Why in hell would you implement a closling circle in this game when exploration is important ?
The circle is a nuisance at best, and it doesn't improve the gameplay loop whatsoever.
If you want to gradually make the map smaller, why not close off entire rooms and corridors, making the dungeon crawling experience more challenging due to planning.

At first I was in the same wagon but after playing for a bit I realized the game is about timing and decisions, rooms take time to clear (combat is also about timing, aggro management and etc), doors take time to open and close, chests to open. You should be moving forward most of the time rather than horizontally, you should be planning your route through the map with the circle in mind. You cant loot every chest, sometimes even crates, only vases. Most extraction shooters make it so its only worthwile to extract with as much good stuff as possible, making choke points where the good loot is (or the bounty in HS), but this game makes it so worthwhile to just extract even if you just make 40g.
Plus, the best gear tends to be on the enemies rather than in the chests.

I would however tweak a bit the starting circle, as it sometimes makes player have to rush half the map at the start.

tldr git gud you can out-heal the dmg with the 6g potion.

You will move anyway since you need to extract/complete objectives. Hell, in Hunt Showdown there is a lot of fighting, yet there is no circle actually forcing you to make misplays.
You look at your map, see that the extract is over there, objective is over here. You'll expect to encounter people, and you will.
This game doesn't have to be like Hunt Showdown. In this game the circle keeps matches short. And no, you don't need to move if you're safe in the circle, because hiding and waiting for an escape portal is a viable strategy. If you're any good, you'll fill your inventory in the first 5 minutes of the match and further looting will be mostly to deny resources to others.

If you want a game like Hunt: Showdown, why not go play Hunt: Showdown?

The game isn't first and foremost for exploration, its for combat, with exploration to improve your chances of success. With the way doors work, shutting behind you is beneficial, as it takes longer to open them, than close. This means that a clever player could potentially trap another person as the circle is closing, and either finish them off or whatever.

I do hate how easy it is to die though, especially against a roaming band of three tryhards. And how you keep utterly nothing when you die. Sure, you still level, but than in itself is almost worthless. Equipping a new skill that makes your 5 second cast time spell do +5% more damage means nothing compared to finding a sword that can 2 shot people. Overall, just haven't been having a good time.

The circles are common in BR games, not in Extraction games and I would not consider this circle generous by any strech of imagination. Currently, the circles stresses way too much and forces players to push into PvE engagements they cannot win. In fact, I argue that people die to NPCs so often because of this circle. As a full group it is doable, but still annyoing. As solo? Suicide unless you play a very strong PvE class like cleric.

If they want to have a circle, they should follow CoD's DMZ. In that one, the circle beings closing after 20 minutes and you head to an extract point. You have time to explore, do missions and fight other players without being herded into each other.

This game isn't a battle royale. It's more like Tarkov the ONLY thing it has that makes it in any way similar to a battle royale is the closing circle. That's it.

Can we just make sure the portals spawn within the circle? Not like, the very beginning of the map when you're on the last circle?

youtube search "Dark and Darker dev interview" it is like a 2 hour interview with time stamps. They flat out said circle is NEVER being removed and is apart of their core vision

I'd rather brawl it out at the center of the map after 10min than brawl it out at the center of the map after 30 minutes of waiting for the slows to check every room cause there is nothing to hurry them up. I like the circle, it forces engagement and shrinks the area in which escape/down portals can appear. It serves it's purpose well enough, ain't broke, and I see no better alternative
