You just need to out maneuver and outsmart opponents. There are other ways to get to portals than by engaging a 3 stack, although I have had my fair share of 3 man wipes. Use the storm to your advantage, use rooms to your advantage, shift focus back and forth from fighting to surviving. Know when to do each.
Sometimes you win and escape, sometimes you lose and die. It just is what it is. Can't play every round perfectly, and I think that is what keeps it fun. If you just get in and out every game with no challenge what is the point?
