The Attack Speed is Too Slow
The attack speed is too slow. If you disagree with this idea, take an object that weighs 2 lbs in hand and swing your arm (a shortsword weighs 2 lbs). I filled a thermos with water until it weighed 2 lbs, and I could swing my arm twice as fast as I can swing a shortsword in Dark and Darker.

Unfortunately, you're wrong. Reason: I said so.

But was it with precision and accuracy or were you just dumbly going in circles. maybe if they made it to where attack speed is based of strength and dexterity but right now its fine.

I was mimicking the typical 1-2 shortsword swinging motion you can see in the trailer on Steam.

sounds like an anime kid. speed is not the biggest factor in swinging a sword. if you cant align your cut then you might as well just be swinging a blunt object.

It's called balancing, it's a thing in video game development or something

If that's going to slow you down I'd suggest using a blunt weapon like a mace because they can weigh about as much as a shortsword.

Attack speed is slow for a reason. You have to commit to your attacks; if you just want to swing around your sword with no penalty for failed attacks, then play Chivalry.

I disagree. You should be deliberate with your attacks, but there's no reason to make the attack speed unrealistically slow. I'm not suggesting you get damaged any less from successful attacks.

The speed is fine its another factor which makes this game unique.

Thinking that swinging a 2lbs thermos and swinging a 2lbs sword are even close to equivalent is hilarious.

A sword would be easier to swing because it's designed for that. A thermos isn't.

Completely incorrect. The sword is going to be much harder to swing because it is substantially longer. Pick up a broom in your house and hold it close to the brush part. It should feel fairly light and you can swing it easily, despite the long handle swinging wildly behind you.
Now try holding it with one hand by the very tip of the handle. Not so easy. The broom weighs the same, but the broom's center of gravity is much further away from your hand, and now you must use substantially more wrist and arm strength to counteract the weight.

This is why your thermos/sword hypothesis is laughable. A thermos is maybe at most a foot long. Most short swords are going to be 2 feet long at minimum. Even if that sword weighed the same as your thermos, it will be much harder to swing, let alone with any degree of accuracy.

Your wrong. A sword's weight is balanced, a broom's weight is not, and a thermos isn't designed to be used as a weapon.

Spoken like someone who's never held a real sword in their life.

I doubt you've held one. A sword is balanced less than halfway down its length, closer to your hand, so your broom comparison is horrible. Watch a video of someone in real life teach about swords.
