why is my xbox controller not working with this game, what kind of weirdo plays a fighting game with a keyboard

I saw this game in the recommendations and wanted to try it, beautiful anime girls, exciting fights, played with friends, gamepad support pleases!

I'm sure I've been knocked off the top spot, but for a brief moment tonight I was the number one The Cute Fighter player in the world for amount of wins (19), and number two for amount of stars (79)... although the number one star person is 'Piotr' with 6301 stars but only 8 wins, so I'm not sure how that works. Hope to see y'all on the leaderboards and on the online circuit - I'm 'Butt Stuff'. Good luck everyone!! ...
