Report a translation problem
I don't have the log.txt file, and after reinstalling (just in case) the windows executable versions is being downloaded. In the previous installation Linux binaries were available, even I tried to execute it with "./X-Plane-x86_64" that worked but crashed because Steam was required as I mentioned.
Answering your question about installation, is a clean and plain installation, only some DLC scenarios. I'll try to get back the Linux binaries.

What I did, exits Steam and execute the game directly from the terminal with this command:
This starts again steam and the game. After that I can execute again the game from the GUI.
Weird? yes
Why? no idea
Solves the problem? I think yes, at least I'm able to play.
Basically I modified the desktop link that executes steam.
The file is /usr/share/applications/steam.desktop and modified this value which by default true:
