So hey...This is awkward...
So yea look im all about inclusiveness and Making sure anyone can relate to characters that their playing as. But There's a reason why there was no black people in the original Oregon trail and adding them is kinda like just ignoring that really racist fact. We should remember everything that's happened that we as a society have tried to make better over time.

So Hey, this is awkward, but I was just thinking of how it would be so easy to distract consumers from the price tag, or the clunky nature of the port with a little half hearted anti-woke signaling. Now i am not a saying this was planned, but imagine all of the people that might feel they need to buy this game in protest, now.

All of those people paying 30 dollars for this, instead of playing oregon trail deluxe, or one of the better put together re-releases. And saying that it is moral for other people to buy this for 30 dollars.
I decided to pass on this when I watched a review and saw the virtue signaling disclaimer given at the beginning of the game. That alone told me that quality was going to be sacrificed for political brownie points. No thanks.
It's always both funny and sad that whenever people of color, LGBTQ, or women are included in media in a positive (or even just equal) way, how all the closet racists and sexists come out of the woodwork and get upset. Every time it's under the guise that it's actually the content creators or the left that are being racist/sexist, not them. You guys aren't fooling anyone and expose yourselves immediately. Normal people get happy when they see people who have been oppressed in the past being lifted up. It's supposed to make you feel good to care about others. It's called empathy.

This "woke" s-hit and whatever people consume these days in a throw-away instant gratification society is mind boggling, scary and super annoying to come across. I blame the internet.

You should be blaming Trump and Fox News cause they f'ed you up dude.

I think the major complaint is that you're stuck with a "mixed group" instead of being able to create the characters in your wagon. If nothing else, having already-created characters ruins some of the fun of the original Oregon Trail where you could name each person in your team.

I see nothing wrong with minorities or women involved (both were to varying degrees), but it was practically unheard of to see a mixed race group, especially since most people who went westward were families.

Personally, I'd like to be able to create my own team. I could have any combination of people then. I could have an all-female team or an African-American family or whatever else.

if that was the case then people would have said that. They wouldn't have mentioned preserving history, the left, or being woke. You're the first person to mention a valid customization complaint.

It's the unnecessary virtue signalling. That and the fact that so many games these days have the same cast of characters; it's repetitive. Also, people get attached to certain franchises and characters and they don't want it to change.

I bet you didn't talk this way 5 years ago. You got your recent advice in life (everything is racist!) from actors in Hollywood and politicians who lie for a living. You were used.

Wow, way to make a ton of assumptions there bud. You always like to throw out baseless accusations like that or just in this case?

It's the way of the left man. Gotta pass their ever-changing tests of moral superiority or they'll eat you alive and make you apologize about it.

Yea I totally get how non-racist people would get upset that the 8x12 pixel white dude from their 1970's game they named Devon that died of dysentery could possibly have brown pixels. It's a super normal reaction.

You are right about one thing though. Folks in power on both the right and the left want us fighting and divided as it keeps them in power. Each side just uses different tactics to do so. The right usually uses fear mongering. You buy into it when you think giving people equality causes a loss of your freedom.

It's ironic that you say people in power like to divide us while in the same breath you do exactly what they want you to do, creating further division by accusing people of bigotry where no evidence exists to back up your claim.

The difference is I am standing up for equality / unity. I can't really do much if you disagree with that sorry.
I keep seeing it over and over. The 'alt-right' (or hardcore trumpers etc) are *almost* always more hateful, ignorant and aggressive than the rest of anyone commenting.

I have absolutely seen far lefties being pricks and irrational, but the snide prickishness is more often there among the far right. Im not claiming to be an "enlightened centrist", as I tend to lean left on one subject and right another. That does put me in more a moderate category, I guess. However, it does give me a bit more ability to see the forest AND the trees than some. I dont go in with too much bias, generally. Like I say, though, I have noticed the right seem more petty and insulting overall. Just personal observation.

That said, I never even thought about it being odd that black folks were in the game. I just played and had fun. It's not a bad question, though. It seems after reading a bit, black people were indeed on the trail in different capacities. So, it works out.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with different races and genders present in the game, either. However, as I said in an earlier post, I'd really prefer having the CHOICE to create my team with variables such as race, gender, name, etc.

Not only would this make more sense from a historical and socio-political perspective in the 1800s (very few groups were mixed-race, especially since most teams were families), it'd allow players to personalize their team which (at least in my experience) makes the characters feel more important.

Perhaps the dev will allow for that later on (although I won't be holding my breath) or more likely, someone will figure out a way to mod the game.

I am so sorry I opened this thread. Playing video games is to escape the carp in this world.
