What am I supposed to be doing? -Mayhem
I had a sudden itch to play X3, thought why not continue my journey in Mayhem. I loaded up my save from last time and I can't figure out what the hell I was doing.

I'm currently in Priests Refuge. I have a small fleet of fighters and a Ryu, plus a couple of dilapidated trade ships in need of repair.

Things appear to be moving incredibly slowly and without much action or conflict. To my disbelief none of my ships have jumpdrives or really any extensions at all.

Where and how would I go about attaining jumpdrives and SETA thingy? Am I gated from that stuff until a certain point of progression?

I recall this mod being very slow to get started, probably explains why I never progressed very far in it.

The Mayhem mod is intended to be a different perspective on the game. It is more about sending your fleets out to conquer territory and less about jumping around the galaxy in your personal ship. Use of jump drives is intentionally limited to create a more strategic movement of fleets. You have the ability to instantly jump into the cockpit of any ship you own allowing you to be part of any engagement you would like. For the most part though, your fleets will be moving around based on your orders not your piloting.

If you don't have an outpost yet, you probably haven't completed the ascension mission that you chose at the start of the game. You can find your ascension requirements in your personal console (key needs to be assigned in the config). Once you have completed that you'll have the ability to place your first outpost conquering your first sector.
Thanks a lot for the info there.

From memory I did complete the ascension but I do not recall ever being prompted to claim a base. Maybe I am just oblivious to it.

Ultimately I'm not entirely sold on the design of that mod. When I read "Mayhem" I envisioned something a lot more chaotic, like loads of pirates filtering through the galaxy early on and large-scale faction warfare. Basically anything that would give you an immediate sense of urgency.

I think I'm just too old and crabby to enjoy these mods. I played LU up to the invasion point, which is essentially a trillion light-years down the track in terms of progression. Something about the galaxy remaining dead and lifeless for 95% of the playthrough doesn't sit right with me. It appears as though this mod somehow moves even slower than that.

Would be cool if these mods could be configured to adjust timelines of major events.
