What classes would be best for newer players?
Hello Im new to EQ2 and have been enjoying myself so far. I'm currently on a level 13 ranger and have been considering to make a switch to another class before trying to go through the whole leveling process because I've been dying an awful lot.

Ranger good dps class, fun to play. Paladins are good for soloing.
To increase your survivablity while soloing try a pet class like Summoner (Necromancer & Conjurer) or a tanky self-healing class Crusader (Shadowknight & Paladin). Ranger can be a very challenging class for new players to solo with.
I started a couple of weeks ago as a Necromancer, and ended up going with a Mystic which is a lot of fun. It´s a healing class with a pet, shapeshifting, and you can play range casting or melee. Have fun with what ever you play.

Also get the mercenary upgrade. It comes with the latest expansion, or you can buy it separately
.
I think the classes which are the MOST FUN to play are Necromancer and Shadow Knight. Necros can summon really cool pets and have a lot of hard hitting DoT abilities. Whereas SK's are both tanks and huge damage dealers.
ive found a healer class is great for soloing. it takes a while to kill, but with heals theres less downtime

I have a fabled Merc and he kills everything for me nearly instantly. I can take on groups of heroics a few levels above me no problems.
Beyond a doubt, the easiest class to solo stuff is the ShadowKnight. I have one of almost every class in the game at this point and I still believe it with all my heart. There's higher DPS and higher survivability classes, but the SK is the highest DPS tank class, plus about everything they do can be turned into a lifetap.
Learn to tradeskill and become an armorer so you can make chainmail armor ever new level tier. It'll keep your stats high, and make sure that you keep your mitigation up to level, so your resistance matches the enemies you're fighting, and you can hold your own in combat.

Is there a way to change what race your skeleton minion is as a Necromancer?

I once made a Troll Necromancer, and when I summoned my pet, it was a Ratonga skeleton. So My tall, evil looking necromancer is attacking people with a tiny skeleton that barely comes up to his waist!

Actually, that sounds pretty scary, now that I think about it.

its just your gear. mastercrafted is best if you want your class to survive. any class. or run some at level dungeons over and over til you fill out a set of that.
If you go to the main city there is a red fire mouth looking thing. It lets you run "Agnostic" dungeons. Basically instanced dungeons that are easily duoable and I even managed to solo it. Gives great gear guaranteed and for your class off every named in there. Every 10 levels you can run those and get a full set of current level gear.

So happy someone showed me this as Im a free player with no expansions or mercs.
