This game is dead from years
The fact that just 100-200 players (real number of actual players) are still playing it makes you get the idea. A free internet game, turn based, fantasy with no community? I mean, is it so hard to lure a casual internet game? NO, it is just that Pox is almost a complete mess.

If you go to Pox forums and write about how bad the game is everybody laughs at you, if not directly flame you and your family. Nobody talks bad about the game in the forums and you know why? Because players which doesn't play it, doesn't post on the forum. And Poxnora had thousands (yes thousands) of player which year by year abandoned it, and are not posting anymore.

This game is a mess. The mechanichs are messed up, rules and interactions are so complex and unbalanced that the game kill casual players with boredom or anger. Try a game against the faction called Forsaken Waste and then tell me how does it feels.

There is a huge inflation of runes, which makes things worse, and they span from completely useless to stupidly overpowered. So guess what: hard to believe, just a small part of these runes are competitively used. I really must say I admire the original developer which is trying to make this work from ages, but honestly, this game is dead. It need a huge overhaul which will never come. There may be few old players which keeps playing it, but this doesn't mean that the game is nice.

If you want to have fun, go somewhere else. If you want to get mad trying to understand, while in game, why the last champion hit you for 27 damage, or the amount of DOT which your champions will receive next turn, or whatever happened or try to follow the game you are playing - download it.

You clearly are not problem solver. Poxnora is a puzzle, your runes are your pieces. Poxnora is the best Turn based game. You get to customize not only your DECK, but also each champion in your deck. They mechanics were just revamped a few weeks ago, and forsaken wastes are far from the best. They usually just surge or buff a lich up. This game is about creating your OWN decks, ideas and strategy, there will be A LOT of fails.

I suggest using the combat log in game if you arent understand WHY things are happening. Usually a spell or some sort of buff. 27 isnt THAT high, it sucks when your favorite unit gets pimp slapped into a blue ball that is instanty devoured by a zombie or a worm.

But hey, what fun would the game be if you could anticipate every single move the opponent could/was going to make. Maybe try some facebook "strategy" games with your friends.

Acutally Sir, I'm a problem solver -technical- and my company is satisfied. And I've not a facebook account.

You correctly affirm that you need to read the combat log. Yes, when it works. Tell me, please what happens if I click a SPELL casted in combat log. Does the spell "rune" shows up? NO. And you know I'm not talking of "hidden" spells.

When you read in the combat log "this ability activates", and you want to learn about what it does, does it show up somewhere? NO.

There are a tons of unclear interactions and rules, which makes the games BLURRY, at the best.

The game concept is amazing. The way it is bugged and poorly coded is frustrating and disappointing. This is the reason why even the greatest, most gifted players of Pox LEFT IT for good. A good strategy game would attract players in very fast, what Poxnora did when it appeared. I still remember it has thousands, literally speaking, of enthusiasts. It is not even question of money, because the decks today are honeslty pretty cheap.

It is just horribly inflated, rune side. Blurry on mechanics. They tried (I should have saved the post of RadarX when he announced it) to semplify it, removing the champions build personalization, and they ended of stacking 4-5-6-7 if not more abilities and/or traits to champions which need 1 minute for each to be read. Some of them is just a STACK of 2-3 more, Jesus. The turns lasts less than 2 minutes. That was the start of the end, they solved a heart disease removing the heart. Well done.

You cannot even get how to counter a champions deployed 2 turns earlier because you are still trying to figure out what he does and you have not time to read it.

Have a nice evening.

You make some good points, the game has a lot of things which need improving - we are working to resolve them, bit by bit!

The game was left in an awful state when abandoned by former owners SoE, since Desert Owl Games re-aquired PoxNora we have been trying to get things back on track, making improvements constantly. We have made some good progress and have re-gained some of our playerbase back, but it isn't going to happen overnight.

If you don't feel the game is playable right now but love the concept, keep an eye on its development and in the not too distant future you may well be surprised with some of the updates we are working on.

been playing poxnora from octopi -> SoE -> desert owl phases since 07'... its the best turn based CCG there is out there EVEN with the major ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SoE did over the few years it had its evil grip over poxnora.. quality over quantity, i rather have fellow players who are eager to get better and have fun in the game rather than a thousand-bunch of whiney fake D/c'ers who blame others for their own ♥♥♥♥ and rage on public chat or through whispering.. dont blame the game if you cant adapt to its mechanism, or if you just suck - just play it and enjoy having the chance of playing such game during youre life (people nowadays appreciate little to nothing..) or take a walk.. your call.. personally ill enjoy the game as long as its even remotely alive

I didn't want to offend nobody, expecially the developers which are trying to improve the game from ages.

I was enraged when I read replies to balance issues, in SOE times, like: "We will let the meta settle" while it was clear the game was being ruined, with a stupid complexity creeping, which probably was loved by some developer/player and which Pox paid with its players implosion.

Best wishes on bringing the game to the level it deserves.
You do realize this game is a 2d and plus in went in many downs through time. Also this game is very old and not much people who like fancy graphic will play it. I like this game, because I played Battleforge before. I wish there are more games like this and battleforge.

Mixing cards game with some 3d starategy is fun.

I honestly feel kind of bad for the people working on the game. If I were to list all the things I'd like to see done to improve the game, it'd be such a massive laundry list of issues that it'd probably scare the average developer away. I do wish them the best of luck in improving the game, as I do find it to be incredibly fun myself.

From my experience it's very difficult to swing a game around from a slump. But, it's certainly not impossible.

Also, more players are always a good thing. More players means more money being pumped into the game, which means a longer life span for the game as well as more frequent updates. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs seem to take forever on updates simply because they're fighting to survive with what little player base is available to feed the project. Meanwhile, companies like Blizzard make so much money from their game products that they can focus entirely on said games.

If a game doesn't have enough support, it will fade away. This is a fact about game development. Servers cost money. Updates take time. If the bottom line isn't enough to make the whole thing worthwhile, a game will die. More players offer padding against this inevitability, childish or not. If you love a game enough that you want it to stick around, you should probably advertise it to ensure the devs get the monetary support they need, so you don't lose the game you love.

Pox is one of my favoprite games but i have to tell you i can not get any of my friends to play it. for most the look of the game throws them off.
Please do not forget that there are about a hundred other options for players to choose from when it comes to these types of games . and most of them are way more flashy on the surface.

so for me this is the problem drawing new people. they dont like the way pox looks .

Changed my mind completely, I am with you . this game is beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at this point.

I have to agree with some of the things I've seen on these and the official Pox Nora forums, the community is not new player friendly. Combined with the imbalance issues and the dated graphics its like watching an old pet waiting to die. I DO NOT want this game to die, however just over 100 players online at any given time is pretty sad. Even worse is most players won't even say hi when you try and talk to them. I'm fortunate in that I can work a lot of it myself, but others don't have the patience to play through multiple single/multiplayer games and read through each battle log entry. People will decide whether they want to keep playing a F2P usually in the first hour or two. If that hour or two is full of complicated unexplained rules, graphics from the 90s to 00s and people ignoring them in chat boxes, I can't blame them for moving on to something else.

For long long time now it has about 20 players average online and it keeps decreasing. So yes, the game is bleeding and will turn into ghost town very soon.

Regularly seeing 100-150+ online during US times, but population does get pretty low when it's late here.

126 online right now at 12 PM Pacific time.
