Why is metal sonic so hard

Robotnic probably could have made him out of gold, which would have also been a good contrast to Super Sonic, but they still would have had to mix it with another metal as gold alone would be too soft to allow Metal Sonic to travel at such great speeds.

If you beat him just before Eggman catches up, it looks like Eggman is running him over when he hits the door. As for the difficulty, it is damn hard indeed; it's all those awkward quarter pipes and spikes. Wait until you see Metal Sonic's Stardust Speedway boss in Sonic Mania; he's even worse in that game! In that, he's a cross between this game, Generations, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and that game's Death Ball miniboss. Sonic 4 Episode 2 as well if you count White Park. (This paragraph only makes sense if don't mind reading the spoiler. Do not read it if you don't want any spoilers)

The A.I is rubber band type get to he use speed up to you faster. AND YET THERE A ACHEVMENT TO NOT GET BY HIM.

Metal Sonic is awkward but the race is easier if you get the good future beforehand,otherwise it's a rougher race. Also you just need to remember how the AI works for it then it becomes a matter of memorising Metal's mechanics.

Peel out right by the door before it opens, let go as soon as it does, spam jump. If (when) you get stopped by something, react appropriately, then try to peel out and spam jump again. Repeat as needed. It's a bit of a brain-dead way of handling it, but I have very little time for rubber-banding AI in any kind of race.

wtf? Mania is easy as ♥♥♥♥ man, you don't have to race him, you can go at your own pace, CD in the other hand forces you to go fast and win or you'll lose a life, but Mania's is easy

I did see the new update and yes it is easier than it was. I did get good at the original eventually but Sonic Mania Plus does tone down his hit points in phase 2 and has a new phase replacing the spike chase in phase 3, similar to phase 2 of the Kyodai Eggman Mech in Sonic 3 & Knuckles but with the Phantom Ruby instead of the Master Emerald.
