Getting a flat surface impossible?
Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the game but I am frustrated with trying to get a flat surface using machinery. No matter what machine I have tried, they seem to just bounce all over the place or ride over the surface instead of digging in. I tried using a flat platform made of wood floor to give the machine a starting point but nothing works. I'm not looking for perfection, but it seems to me that one should be able to produce a reasonably flat surface using machinery.

In my experience thus far the dozer is just a mess and seems to add dirt instead of flattening and you end up with something worse that what you started with, and yes, I've tried the GPS. Tried the loader too even though that is not it's function and it tends to either ride over the top of the dirt or dig in too much no matter how you tilt the bucket. The grader kind of works but raising the blade seems to drop clumps of dirt as there is no "off button" to the action. In the end I usually end up using the shovel and pickaxe to get what I need but what fun is that?

I am open to the possibility that I am just "doing it wrong" but these machines just don't seem to have the right amount weight and they just slide all over the place. Even working down a gentle slope they feel like a runaway train or a car in neutral. I welcome suggestions but I hope the developer is aware of this and plans to fix them.

Bought this yesterday so I know what you are going through. I even messed up in the tutorial many times.

Today persevered. Used the loader 'carefully' then get out and use the shovel to flatten the ground. Also the fast pick and fast shovel are good purchases.

Thanks, yeah I get the fast and pick and shovel first thing for sure lol. The grader does fairly well you just have to keep your eye on the angle of the blade not just the height. As far as the sliding around, I tried the chained tires but they don't seem to be making any difference so perhaps that functionality is not implemented yet. Thanks so much for responding. Maybe we noobs can help each other ha!
I am currently starting to prepare my mine to pave some roads and I had the same issue, what I do, first I use the normal Roller (not asphalt) to flatten the surface, if there are some bumps that are to high, I use the grader and then the roller again, this way, you get a nice flat surface, perfect for paving
The Dozer is for pushing stuff...
I also tryed to use to use a Dozer that way, but its a tough mess.

if you want a flat surface you should use Graders or Rollers

At the moment i use the Arvik L9 Roller to flatten the mess i make with my Loader and it works like a charm....

Hey thanks I will give that a go. I'm guessing your first run with the roller is just to keep the grader from moving up and down as it goes over the surface. Maybe this is the way...

yes it initially smoothens the surface a lot, its a bit like a big "quick shovel"
Tell me if this works for you, when you had the chance to try =)
short version, that works for me:
loader / excavator - bring it on round about same lvl
dozer - for smoothing the area and outlines (i use a control configuration, which i can handle while driving)
Roller - smoothing
(loader for filling holes, than repeat dozer)
grader - for flat the area even more
Roller - smoothing

check by foot
if needed repeat filling (loader), leveling (dozer), smoothing (roller), smooth leveling (grader), again roller

check by foot
repeat whats needed

use handtools for short spots and repairs

Yeah trying to keep the ground level and flat is not impossible buy close to it. The devs are good and wanting to add/fix things. Why we dont have a simple auto level function by now I dont know.

I know what you mean. I think the bigger issue might be the instability of the machines in the way that they slide and bounce around so much. I think if the simulated weight and friction were tweaked it would solve a lot of the problems in leveling and controlled digging. Also noticing that even a slight touch of the bucket to the ground causes big dents which really shouldn't happen.

Yeah the bouncing is crazy! I play with a few guys a while back that had really flat level ground. What they did was fill in low spot by hand and pounded with the shovel. Took down hills with the pick. To me it becoming a pick and shovel game.

dozer = Fitted with a blade on the front and a ripper on the back, dozers are powerful demolition and pushing machines. They are used mainly for excavation, digging, leveling, and earthmoving projects including pushing large amounts of heavy materials like snow, rock, sand, dirt, and more.

in regard to the game, what do you even use the ripper for?

To crack solid rock.

On the quarry hill map for example, in the lower parts of the quarry, the ground is solid and you can not dig into it.

For this you can either use the ripper on the bulldozer, attach a ripper to an excavator or blast the rock,

they need to add wheel loader a "smooth land " option using bucket ( like we do irl )
