Forest Flat--where to look

I want to love this game, but I'm really confused about something. I'm colorblind, and I'm not fully understanding what to look for. I've heard to check for "dark areas" on the map. I'm not clear, though, what that should look like (I mean, I can see light and dark spots, but on Forest Flat, it's everywhere).

Any pointers on what to actually look for? I'm down to my last few minutes before I can return this one--as I said, I want to love it (played the heck out of Gold Rush). I'm just not quite catching on. Thanks!

The Darker green grassy area should have something below them. Use a pickaxe or explosives to find out whats under.

Thanks for the help. I've figured out what I need to look for. A quick follow up or two:

Are these the only places I'll find ore?

Does the Darker Green area mark the footprint of the vein, or can it be much larger as you go further down?
