How to make storage output materials that it contain?

from what ive seen it only out puts when full like an overflow system
was just about to see if i can use it as a sorting system by filling all slots with 1 of the same item and see it it will pass everything else along the line

that would be very convienient and long awaited feature, along with possibility to fully automate manufacturing and smelting tings (probably they're working on that xD), but for now it is what it is...

possible way would be to fill each slot with 1 item of same ore etc then any other type would flow to next storage just a guess but cant see why wouldn't work

it works as an overflow when full it will pass thru into the next silo has no controllable out put

its confusing because the animation works already we tryed all kinds of different setups with the trommel inputs and then had to watch a tutorial video
