How do I find ores?

How do I find ores? I found the gray stuff at the start. But I have no clue what to dig.

well at the start you could dig anything, only thing not worth selling exclisively is dirt (brown topsoil) and unprocessed paydirt (slightly brighter dirt) once you got a washplant it can create you some good income.
coal (the dark gray stuff) is easy to spot and makes a decent income at the start
then there are the ore veins wich look rocky with various colores depending on the material.
later you can drill to find out what material is in the vein you targeting, untill then just get everything :)
