My Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Version
Cave Story has come out for the Switch, and I promptly pre-ordered it. It's nice to see the game get a proper, non-Cave-Story-3D physical release, especially after so long, and this was a great way to do it. The retail version comes with: The Box, a Full-Color Instruction Booklet, a Mini-CD with 13 songs on it, the Game, and, with the GameStop pre-order, either a Quote, Curly, or Balrog keychain (I got Balrog). The instruction booklet is actually really nice, as is the keychain and the CD. The game cartridge, as is custom with Switch games, tastes like a pool of acid. The gameplay is very similar, but I noticed very significant changes to the puppy quest in Sand Zone, as well as a few changes in Waterway. The HD graphics are nice, and the water effects are usually fine. A new challenge, called the Sand Pit, was added, and is a fun addition. A new Famitracks soundtrack option was added, and possibly exceeds the original Organya soundtrack, and was my music of choice during my run. Overall, it's a great package for anyone who wants to replay Cave Story, or still needs to experience it for the first time, and is the definitive version of the game. However, if you plan on picking it up, only do so physical. Otherwise, just pick up the PC version.

What was changed in the waterway? NICALiS blabbed about additions to the story-- is there anything to back that up?

I saw that now you can carry two jellyfish juices at a time and any number of Jenka's puppies. I'm sad that it groups all of her puppies together because they have unique descriptions that give them character. I wish they all took up different inventory slots.

Are there pics of those keychains tho? I also heard this version has a 4th soundtrack.

I wonder if someone could mod that soundtrack in this version.

I didn't try the Jellyfish thing, but I can confirm that 5 puppies can be changed at once, and the one near the warehouse has been moved. You can also look at each of the puppies names and personalities while they're stacked in the inventory. The door in Waterway is now easier to get to, as there's a block keeping you from falling off when you're pushed towards it.

Pics of keychains can be found on Nicalis' Twitter. They look really good. Also, there's a new soundtrack called Famitracks, and it's INCREDIBLE.

Hey, sorry for commenting after some time has passed by, but is the 4th (it's a very niche thing, I can understand if you don't get it) ending out in this version? I've heard rumors of it in the WiiWare Version, such as the shootable block in Sand Zone that allows you to beat Curly to her house, as well as taking Nene to the warehouse, no blade, etc. Just wondering as I'm very unsure if it will ever be in any cave story game now. sorry for the bothering you. here's the 4th ending in question, hoping it is a thing. https://youtu.be/jRBz1ihz6EU (video for 4th ending.)

Oh yeah, also, quick question, does hard mode have the missile launcher missing? sorry for not like, checking the FAQ on gameFAQs or something..

It would be nice if they ported those changes and additions to the PC version some time in the near future. I follow Nicalis on Twitter and seeing all these RTs with screenshots is painful. Apparently, the Switch version even comes with skins for both Quote and Curly... And the graphics look really nice, unlike the remastered ones we have on PC (I might be biased as I first played CS through the original version, tho).

I haven't played hard mode yet, so I can't answer the missile question, but the 4th ending isn't actually real. It was a really well made mod that was debunked years ago, sorry. You can download the mod off the description of that video.

It sure does suck. That stuff was coming out on Twitter back when I was almost sure I wouldn't be getting a Switch, so it did kinda suck for me as well.

There never was and possibly never will be a fourth ending. That video has been circulated a lot and was made as an april fools joke.

Man how many times are they going to port this game? Though it seems they're adding new levels and upgrading the 2D graphics again? Definitely has me curious.
