Full Screen mode doesnt work?

So I fire it up, runs smoothly enough, but it refuses to do full screen mode. I checked the little box in options, tried alt+enter. It simply flickers and remains the same. Can still see my start menu down below. Terrible annoying. Anyone have any ideas here? I am on a Win 7 x64 box with amd 7870
