So, how about those modded clients?
I find it quite funny how a lot of the people, especially kids, that complained about the game getting hacked are now using clients modded for things like super speed, re-entering dungeons, cheating death, and a wide variety of other bull$hit. Kabam...or Wild Shadow...or whoever is in charge now, do something about this nonsense.

I believe that "hacked" clients or modded clients have quite a number of features that should already be in the game but there is also quite a few features that are toxic and actually bad.

I've actually used modded clients in the past to get an experience of what they're like and what they change in the gameplay. This is was on another account which I no longer touch. I've barely even gotten 'far' on the account as well. It was mainly used for learning purposes.

Allow me to give some insight on the bad and good, staring with the bad.

BAD!

1. IGNORING all debuff effects.
Nobody whatsoever should have such an ability. This is a blatant cheat that harms the game.
They could easily prevent these cheats, except for confusion, due to the fact that clients can and probably already do switch around the controls momentarily via changing A to W and W to D and S to A. There's no excuse for everything else.

2. Noclipping through walls.
While this is only useful for getting through breakable blocks and the realm walls, it's still blatant cheating and awful to see. Something that dungeons have is completely disallowing anyone to go beyond it's realm or walls, it'll immediately disconnect them. I don't know why this isn't a thing already.

3. Autonexus
Man, I'm just gonna put this simply. You can't stop this. Well, you could, but it'd be so complex and so tedious just to prevent it that honestly, it's not even worth it. It's a blatant cheat, but I can't say it hurts the game, people hate dying and dying DOES reward you so... I dunno, I think it's fine honestly.

4. Speed hacking on DEX worlds
Cheap cheats. It speeds up clearing the dungeon but... eh. It's like some cheat preventing snake eggs from popping in the lower-tier snake dungeon. Yeah it's a cheat but it's barely even a bother. Either way it should be stopped.

5. Auto-Aim
I really don't care about this cheat, it's for people who want to play with one hand I guess? It helps people aim if they're bad at it. Yes it's a cheat but... It's just one of those cheats that barely even matter like the SH in DEX worlds. If you have ever used this cheat you'll know that it's both a curse and a blessing. Auto-aim will shoot things you don't wanna shoot yet, focus on things that you don't wanna focus on, and things like that.

6. Proxy Server
Prevents being IP banned but not account banned. You can't stop this. It's bad, but you can't stop it.

7. Passing Cover
If you've played with these modded clients, you'd know that you can shoot past cover. This should not happen. You hide behind cover and you're given a defense against projectiles with a drawback: You can't fight back. This is how it should stay.

8. Lava-Walls
You cannot run into lava walls or water that would hurt you. That's pretty bull and shouldn't be allowed. It's why Abby dungeon is so dangerous. Blatant cheat. Stupid cheat. Should be disallowed. It can't be that hard.

GOOD

1. Healthbars
I don't see the harm in these. Not only does it allow priests to heal people effectively, it also gives a sense of progression in the game when fighting a boss. People are going to have more fun and get more excited as they see the boss's health dwindle down, such as the avatar or dungeon bosses. It'll also allow them to make some risky last minute moves to quicken the fight to an end. This shouldn't be punished. This should be allowed and even implemented into the game.

2. Fullscreen v2
RotMG has a tiny screen. Quite a number of classes can shoot past the screen's range which means you end up having to listen to the noise of creatures screaming a blood-curdling death as you play half the time. I don't know why they don't just up the amount of screen they let you see. It's helpful, it's nice, there's no harm to it. It's not like you can see what's coming at you from a long while away, creatures 'spawn' when you get within a certain distance of them. If they were all on the map at the same time, your computer would crash and burn so hard. Not only that but you can't see creatures past walls or in another room, so it's not like it'll harm dungeons either. Especially considering the black-tile effect non-ventured blocks have.

3. Force low quality
Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat.
This is a REQUIREMENT for some people if their game gets laggy as they play or if they have awful computers.
This should be an INGAME FEATURE. I am actually ticked off it isn't. High quality makes my game lag up and studder when there's a lot of goingon, on the screen and it can very well lead to my death at some point.

4. No ally projectiles
Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat Not a cheat.
This is a REQUIREMENT for some people if their game gets laggy as they play or if they have awful computers.
This should be an INGAME FEATURE. I am actually ticked off it isn't. projectiles can make the game lag up and studder when there's a lot of projectiles on the screen and it'll very well lead to my death at some point.

5. Numeric HP/MP
Why's this not a thing? I'd really like to see the health I have, thank you. I know just have fast my VIT and WIS is and know how many spells i can get off before I'm on empty. It's stupid that this isn't a thing.

6. Reconnecting V2
HERE ME OUT HERE!
This is both a good thing and a bad thing, please listen to me here!
I believe that being able to reconnect to dungeons, realms, and vaults with a simple keypress is cheating, but I believe Kabam can make something out of this. Reconnecting to the realm with a press of a button isn't a bad thing and neither is connecting to your vault. I'd really like it if this were an actual thing. It just makes stuff easier.
Dungeons on the other hand, Im not too sure if that's fair. Pressing the Nexus key is the same thing as saying "I give up, I can't beat the dungeon, I was stupid and or not strong enough." Why should you get a second chance at that dungeon? However, I could see Kabam easily making money off of such a thing, such as allowing you to rejoin a dungeon via gold or fame.
Did you mess up and Nexus in the Egypt Ancients? Reconnect for 50 Gold / 200 Fame!

7. Realmeye button
This should be a thing. It sends the player to the target player's profile on Realmeye which includes a bunch of information on them, such as their characters, their pets, their graveyard, etc. Basically, anything they wanna share with the world. They could very easily disallow any viewing whatsoever.
Not only is this a good profile-viewing thing, it allow allows you to visit the best wiki for the game currently in existance.

8. Player Stats+Inventory Viewer
Should be left up to the players. Make it an option you can turn on and off. Don't want people seeing your cool stuff? Just disable viewing. I don't think it's that much of a cheat.

and dont forget the new feature which hides players of low star value in nexus. spam bots be gone.
oh wait, I mean... uh... kill the hackers!
yeah.

I stand by my point that hacking falls under the same category of complaints as "pay to win". This isn't a PVP game. You aren't playing against other people (except when trying to get a loot drop from a certain boss, but there are A LOT of factors involved in this that hacking/buying equipments can't account for- it can equally be argued that people with extraordinary amounts of time and a willingness to dedicate it have similar advantages over people who don't) so other people prospering in ways deemed "unfair" have almost no effect on you, or your enjoyment of the game. I'll admit though, it is super annoying to see someone with a hacked client just running through the worlds/ignoring confusion or status effect- just blatantly cheating like that. At least have some shame, people. :p
Weit Brede Mar 29, 2014 @ 7:16pm
I'll be completely honest before I reply to your comments, I did not know that hacked clients offered all of this stuff, for I have not used one. I've been playing this for nearly 2 and a half years now, and I viewed these hacks as what one would typically associate hakcs in an MMO as.

However, that being said, I still stand by the fact that these things need to be removed. There are some good things that they do provide, like the numerical hp/mp, and the Realmeye button (Though I had never even heard of Realmeye until about 2 months ago. I just became friends with people...), but these could be implemented by Kabam, and with the Devs taking a keen interest into the Steam community, one could post these ideas onto their forum for new features/things to be changed.

This does not need to be a hack or mod, however. All of the good things, besides 1, 2, and 5, are small things, things that may be your problem as I have a 2009, fairly cheap computer (I have to run Source games on the lowest settings)or things that really aren't that necessary. The reconnecting thing is something that I dislike, with or without your idea to monetize it. The fact that if one teleports out is a big loss adds to the game's overall arcade-like feel. If you mess up, then that's a slip of your finger, which in arcade games and oldschool things can mean the difference between life or death.

As for the bad things, I've experienced a slew of those so many times during my runs in dungeons. 1, 4, 7, and 8 are pretty self explanatory for why they are bad, and the best way to get around what they fix is to just get better at the game. 2 is annoying for the people actually trying to play the game, as getting to the boss faster means getting loot faster. 3 takes away the arcade-like feel of the game, as you no longer have to be on edge when going against a difficult dungeon/boss. 5 makes it to where they have a higher chance of getting soulbound loot, meaning when you're competing for pots, you have a less likely chance to get soulbound loot. The proxy server just makes it to where this can't be stopped.

Also, Cyanistic, I noticed you didn't include a hack for infinite hp/mp or adjusting stats. The reason I bring this up is because I have had multiple instances where another player has taken some absurd shotgun or some death-inducing bullet and come out of it with barely a scratch. For example, there was a warrior when I was fighting O1 with a small group, and this warrior took Oryx's two giant shots (When he is raging), I checked his health, and he had less than 1/8 of his health gone.

And to respond to scoftthe7seas' comment (Because it is easier than adding another comment) While this isn't a PVP game, it is a competitive game. People are competing for pots, for loot, and for a better deal in the trading system. Also, the unfair part actually does affect other people, because when you are trying to go through an area, taking hits and trying to dodge, and the guy in front of you doesn't have to worry about it because he has hacks to use to be safe, then you are at a disadvantage.
LeviathansLust Mar 29, 2014 @ 8:29pm
You make a lot of good points, Weit!
And don't worry, I only heard of a certain modded client not so long ago as well. I've played the game back when pots took up space and when the warrior had a shield.

My point overall is that the good hacks should not be punished or looked down upon whatsoever but instead implemented into the game as an actual thing.

You do make a nice solid arguement on Reconnecting and disconnecting, however. It takes away the punishment pressing the nexus button gives you. Yeah you survived by hairs on your skin but now you can't complete the dungeon and now you can't win it.
Fair punishment.

Overall, I don't mind too much what they do with it, just so long as they do something.
I do wanna say though that you cannot reconnect after a certain amount of time. Y'see, I think you can only reconnect while the dungeon's door is still open and then a LITTLE time after that. I recall trying to reconnect when I was losing a boss fight and couldn't reconnect at all. Which was good.

Proxies are something that can be done manually though, and you can't prevent proxies in the game. There's literally no way to prevent proxies. IP bans are dumb overall as anyone whose persistant can just bypass it.

Anyways, I didn't include blatant HP/MP hacking and stat hacking because of two reasons:
1. I've never seen or experienced this whatsoever.
2. It wasn't in the client I previously used as a learning experience.

I also feel the need to note that a warrior with the helm of the juggernaut can get some INSANE DEF. It gives you double your DEF so if he has something like 70 it's actually 140 or 60 = 120.

With a max potted warrior, Helm of the Juggernaut and other DEF increasing items, you can take Oryx's shots as though he was hitting you like a kitten.

max def a warrior can get without using any tincs or buffs is 49 from equips, 25 from pots. so the max is 74.
double that for jugg buff and you get 148.

I dont know the exact shot you mean, but looking at this[www.realmeye.com], the highest damage shot in that phase you could mean is 180.
applying defense reduction, that means the warrior took a min of 32 damage per shot.
its doable to barely take any damage without hax. never underestimate a jugg warrior.
Weit Brede Mar 30, 2014 @ 1:10pm
During Rage, which is when he yells "ENOUGH!!!" "DIE!!!" or "I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!!!" he shoots the same shots that he shoots during gaze, the shots that deal 280 damage. The warrior took two of those.
Another thing to take note of is that every hacking warrior I have come across (I've seen about 5 or 6 now) seems to have the exact same loadout: Skysplitter sword, Golden Helm, Acropolis armor, and... Paramount Defence...I think. I'm not entirely sure on the ring, as I never look too carefully at them when I'm fighting, usually because I'm trying to keep up, and I'm an Assassin. With all of those, plus max defence, a warrior would have 66 defence, meaning one of those shots would deal about 214 damage. Taking both of those shots would deal a little bit more than half of his health, assuming he has the max of 770.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some hacks that aren't cool. Being able to move when paralyzed is not OK. I would say that anything you can see another person doing, should be stopped.
Honestly, I think that most people who use hacks are likely not very good. Whatever cheat they're using, they're still going to die. But from a business standpoint, hackers still have to pay for things like extra character slots, or extra chests, so the same opportunity for money coming to Kabam exists regardless of what they're doing. You might argue about them using mules, or other accounts for different characters, but anybody can do that regardless of their class.
I've always said that this game is about having fun. And if you're not having fun, why play it at all? Some people wouldn't play without them, and that's more revenue loss.
As for it being competitive, come on now. Most bosses that drop anything of value are not going to rob you due to hackers. There are some things that give them an edge, but any boss that drops anything worth getting only needs a small fraction of damage done to get that drop. You can't say hackers steal your chance from getting Oryx loot, unless you're implying that everybody hacks. There are A LOT of factors involved in getting, or not getting loot. Hackers or not, if I see three sword classes go into the graveyard, there's no point in even trying. Like I said, it's comparable to the play to win complaints.
I don't use the clients (of course to know about them, you'd have to at least tried them). But I don't have much time to play this game. I have a job, a family, etc. I don't have the time to play in order to get much loot that could be of any value. I don't have the time to kill Oryx 20 times a day so I can finally get some Acro armor. If I want to buy it, to enhance my experience and make the game more fun for me, what's the problem? Keep in mind, purchasing.. ANYTHING helps to support the game. People seem to forget that free-to-play games have costs, and the work devs put in aren't purely out of the kindness of their hearts.

Weit Brede Mar 30, 2014 @ 4:15pm
While I do agree with most of your points, playing the game quite a bit lets you see where the little bits of damage and spare time the hackers get gives them an edge. You may be unluckily caught by an enemy, and it all falls apart from there.

Look up a game on Steam called No More Room in Hell. Originally a mod, this game has, in a way, turned into a full fledged game, and the devs are just some game lovers who wanted to make a game. But I get what you're saying.
