Friend pass or actual game to download?

Friend has the game and we have family share. I downloaded the actual game in anticipation to play it together. Did I download the wrong one? When my friend plays it will I be able to run my downloaded game?

You can't play the same game at the same time.
You'll need to get the friend pass:)

Normally one person has to own the game and one person downloads the friend pass version.

Since you're on family share it may be different though. I would try using the version you downloaded, if that doesn't work try the friend pass version.

both games r the same files, u won't need to re-download anything
also some of the posts were talking about family sharing glitch that detect that the owner is playing the game so it prevents u from playing the friends pass
not sure if this solution works but u can try excluding the game from family sharing so steam detect that its the friends pass
would really appreciate if u lemme know later if that works or not
