Okay. Don't complain about spoilers then:
The entire end section of the game uses the split screen as a gamemechanic, making you and your friend pass through the split screens to change worlds and manipulate the boarder / move it to solve puzzles, as well as the final boss uses the splitscreen to change and manipulate the entire game world. Removing the split screen would mean you'd pass over to the friend and be unable to see yourself.

I think it's a very natural desire to want to play this by beautiful, powerful graphics in Full-Screens, if it possible.
I'm a little disappointed to hear that this isn't possible X)
I’ll continue to play the game to find out the real reason about it. ;)
