How does the friend pass system work?

How does the friend pass system work in Steam? Should I give my friend a code to download or send him a system that plays in the cloud?

I wish other games did this. My god so many games I would play with friends, especially fighting games where they may be interested in playing together but never enough to buy the game.

It's why I am looking at buying this game, because I know 3 people I would love to play it with, so if I buy it I know I can play it with all of them without issue.

Yep, the full game is downloaded for the Friend's Pass user.

It'll pop in there soon enough, hopefully. Just like the "It takes two" friends pass.

I really loved the Friends-Pass solution in It takes Two. It was so fun. First played it as a Friend and later bought it myself to play with another. A brilliant solution.
