Crashes and Freezes
im gonna be honest- ive NEVER had a game freeze and crash as much as this...
And ive played fallout 3 and NV recently.

Open the battle map too much? Freeze.
Flip between the tabs to check mechs n stats? Crash.
Press skip brief too fast? Soft lock.
Just playing the game? Hard crash.

like damn- its never nice to see a company crash n burn that you like, but this is awful...

The game has had poor optimization from launch. Crashes and performance issues are common if you dont have new hardware. I wish I could have run the game at a stable frame rate without stuttering, I would have been alright with 30-35 fps if it where stable at that frame rate but it would dip under that under scenes that you wouldn't think would be super stressful and stutter to the point of unplayability.

The tutorial mission dropping a star of mechs causing a performance drop gave me concerns, the trial of position went by alright, but the first real mission dealing with the pirates absolutely ground to a halt when enemies first appeared. The move to UE5 was a risk but an understandable one given that support for UE4 ended in 2023 with its final patch.

Its a shame because this game is pretty accurate to clan lore, felt like playing a battletech novel. As a BT lore nerd I loved it, just wish my computer did too.

I keep getting the "Fatal Error" crash. But it's seems to me it's triggered if you try to do anything while there's a voice over/NPC talking (particularity if you hit B and start messing around on the battlescape screen). Allowing the voice over to finish (and then waiting a few seconds seems to get you past the bugs that are causing the Fatal Error crash). I can replicate the crash everything time during a run through (one particular point is the introduction of the repair bays during the first mission (going to the battlescape screen and trying to order a Mech to go into the bay seems to trigger things fairly often). It might all be my imagination, but I've found letting the NPCs finish any dialogue before trying to change screen type seems to cut down on things.

Spawning mechs has caused lag since the last game, it's just more noticeable when they spawn directly on top of you. I think they actually optimized it since Mercs because the spawn lag in Clans is noticeably less for me. However, there is some sort of leak that causes stutter and other performance problems after a certain amount of time in-mission, including across multiple missions.
I played about 7 hours and didn't make any changes to my computer, now every time I try to load the game it auto shuts down. Kind of annoyed, because it was a lot of fun.

I started having this issue myself just recently, and no matter what I try to fix this, it keeps crashing on startup now. Which sucks, since I was gifted this game, and it was fun.

There's definitely some sort of link between the NPCs talking/voice over and using B for the battlemap. If I wait for all the talking to finish I never get the fatal crash, BUT if I try and access the battlemap during a voice over then it's 50/50 that I get a "fatal error" :(

what exactly do you mean with "auto shut down"?

during play, my machine just powers off, like long pressing the power button....power off, done. no crash, no freeze, nothing...
and in the event log there is no entry about any errors, nothing, just after reboot this entry:

The system previously shut down unexpectedly on 26.02.2025 at 21:51:19.

errr...
That sounds like a hardware failure. Overheat shutdown to prevent damage? Failing power supply?

this was also my first thought, checked temperature, all good, good cooling.
the power supply, was a little low and old, bought a new one with 850W, same issue
Fatal Error! Fatal Error! Fatal Error!

nah- none of that.
the game was just bad until they updated it on March 7th, the stability patch. after i got that installed the game runs like a dream- besides some stuttering in over populated parts..

In those parts my FPS can dip down to 12 for a bit, the rest of the game is still playable most of the time. Performance has improved in general but it still needs work. Im glad I repurchased the game though, im having a good time with it now that I can actually play it.
