No, not really. I mean, it depends on the actual mass of gold in the coin and what the rest of the economy is like -- but for a random historical example, a gold German 5-mark coin minted in the late 1800's is worth about the equivalent of $100 today. If that's the equivalent, 2 coins a day is enough to make a living, but you definitely won't be retiring after a few weeks.
Pretty much every game has it's collect this to win item. This one has some sort of story behind each one, which is more than can be said than most games, but beyond that, they are just MacGuffins that you need to advance the story.
To be honest, once you reach where to where I am in the game, this sentiment is the correct one to have. So i say the game/story is doing a good job conditioning you that way i guess.
At some point you just wish the characters would stop trying to get these damn cursed objects, but alas you are forced into a contract and must help them regardless.
Well Powerstars in Sm 64 are needed to beat the Game. Starting with 1 Star until at the end, when 70 Stars are needed.
Would the same System make Curios better? Absolutely since the would then be turned from useless collectibles to being tied to the progression of the Game = good.
My favourite use would stil be tough to just get Fantieabilitys for collecting them no matter if the would be the essential ones or just funny/useful ones.
Some Ingame Rewards would do the trick as well, a rare ( at this point of the game) donum book or a fixed legendary equipment for each curio etc.
Or worst Idea : Keep them useless but at least use the name and or description for some vague video game references. Just nothing silly which not fits the theme of the Game.
Like Internet Historian said in his no man sky Video : Pricetag $et expectations.
35 Pieces of Art and the Count wants specifically 9 of them? So the other 26 are useless? Eh Fine.
35 CURSED Pieces of Arts with special abilitys and the count wants specifically 9 of them? So what can the other 26 do? Nothing? BORING
@dead breakfast
First one apparently loves to crash after reaching a certain Area, so i gonna pass, i don't enjoy 50 Buck Russian Roulette Games.
@Minneyar
Usually in Fantasy Settings the most used System is Bronze--->Silver--->Gold Coins. With one Silver being enough to feed a Family for a week or longer and a Gold Coin is basically a myth(for the poor). But you are propably right, since there is no mention of bronze coins in this Game. Which if we still stay with the setting would turn Eurekas Salary into 20 Silver Coins, which is still a fine sum of Money but gonna be at most enough for a Year.
Good Idea but we don't own them after all and the are still cursed objects. So even if we ignore that the are count cookies property, it still would not feel right to give potential lethal weapons to other People.
