If two people are going to retreat on the same turn, it shouldn't come down to a game of chicken with both players waiting until the last second to see if the other person will retreat first. That's just a waste of both peoples' time.

what should be erased is if both players use retreat later that the "winner" doesn't get cubes.

Forfeiting isn't winning.

Your reward for not taking the risk and staying is that you're guaranteed not to lose more cubes; actually earning cubes is for people with confidence.
