People on reddit saying Bytedance owns it somehow so it's getting hit with the TikTok ban

Apparently Ben Brode spoke up about what happened and says that he and his team were also completely blindsided just like we were about the sudden region ban.

So this is entirely on Nuverse pulling the rug out from under us... thankfully Second Dinner is fighting to get the game back up... hopefully it happens soon.

A lot of people keep saying "Marvel Snap got banned along with tiktok". That's not true at all. The legislation didn't ban ByteDance, nor did it ban any of their products except for TikTok. That's it. TikTok. Nothing else. When ByteDance turned off access to everything else, it wasn't because those things were banned. It's because they are hoping to use public sentiment and public stupidity to extort the US into unbanning TikTok.

Banning TikTok made perfect sense and the reasons for it were directly stated by multiple people for months and were echoed by both parties since they have the same goals. It is an app that was not heavily censored (at least in terms of things related to the US and allies, not necessarily to things directly relating to China), was not blocking content US allies want and do block and remove, and didn't filter content through the kinds of algorithms that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, etc do in the way anything owned by Elon and Mark do.

It isn't a hard ban. Rather it forces the divestment and sale of apps to continue operations in USA. Which causes fines of $5000 per user on the hoster (Valve/Google/Apple) and $500 per user on the publisher (Nuverse); If they power through it.

The generic form is literally broad, which is this:
- Prohibition of foreign adversary controlled applications.
—It shall be unlawful for an entity to distribute, maintain, or update (or enable the distribution, maintenance, or updating of) a foreign adversary controlled application.

Marvel Snap is published by Nuverse (HK-HQ is foreign adversary in broader United States code), who is owned by Bytedance. Which makes Marvel Snap a foreign software.

The Bytedance/Tiktok and successors are items A. Where all other applications are part of items B;
"The application is operated by persons domiciled in, headquartered in, maintaining a principal place of business in, or organized under the laws of a country designated as a U.S. foreign adversary under Section 4872(d)(2) of Title 10 of the United States Code, or is operated by a company with at least 20% of its ownership stake held by such persons." Item C is for the Presidency/Secretary of Commerce to decide. Which is open ended, the President or SoC can say EU software also apply.

If Marvel Snap publisher changes from Nuverse to Marvel Games. Then, it would be fine as Marvel Games is owned by Marvel Entertainment, who is owned by Disney.

The ban was passed by a Republican controlled Congress and cleared by a mostly right wing, Republican appointed Supreme Court and not a Presidential executive order by Biden....so how exactly again is this the last administration causing problems before they leave?
