MARVEL SNAP

Shang-Chi Counter?!
How do I stop him? Never have a card with 10+ power on the board? At any time?!

That's impossible. There's always going to be something random. Ironheart might bump an 8 to a 9. Then some location bumps it to 10.

So, no power-boosting characters. Can't do that.

I suppose I could use Armor or Cosmo. But then I'd have to predict, 3 turns in advance, exactly where I will place my 10+ power card. And I can only have one. And I can't use Carnage or Deathlok. And the 10+ can't use their on-reveal with Cosmo. And my opponent will instantly know what I'm doing the moment Cosmo or Armor drops. No win situation.

Why does the Shang-Chi card exist? To punish me for making a deck with high power?

And what of lore? Hulk is the strongest one there is. And Shang-Chi can defeat him 1v1?! Get outta here.

Which is exactly my point. Sarcasm aside, you can work around him, but the effort you have to put in vs the effort he puts in is ridiculous. A card shouldn’t punish you for playing well, it should punish you for falling into their strategy.

Playing big power cards isn't the same as playing well.

So is it an essential and necessary card or one that has no value given how the “real players” are currently playing the game? No one has mentioned that they don’t want to be countered. That isn’t the issue. The issue is that it’s lazy. It’s a lazy counter. YOU need to think harder to work around one card, where when using that card doesn’t require you to think at all. We understand that it isn’t unstoppable. You don’t need to list every single card capable of stopping him. We get it, you play the game. We all do. We know. The issue is that he’s lazy. You will always work harder to work around one card that punishes ALL the cards you put the effort in to get onto the board. You wanna talk about how things should and shouldn’t be, a lazy card like Shang shouldn’t be essential at all levels. Destroying ALL big cards that aren’t yours in a lane will always be overkill. Paint it however you’d like.

If you honestly think that shang chi doesn't require you to think about the game, you are not playing the game enough, you don't meet 50 50 situations and you have no deck knowledge. Instead of venting your frustration on a random steam forum that barely anyone except us 10 regulars read, try working on your game, play more, look at decks online, watch a higher rank pilot his deck like.

We are listing all the play around to show you how much variety the game provides that plays around shang chi, if you don't want to listen, again that is your problem, get over your ego, get over the "world isn't fair" viewpoint and just move on with the game and your invested time. Nobody is forcing you to play the game with a rope around your hands.

Tech cards exist to keep the balance, saying shang chi is lazy is saying that rogue, shadow king and enchantress and red guard are lazy. They are tech cards. They are useless outside of the cards they affect, you adjust to the pool of players you face or you play around. Its called adapting. Humanity has been adapting to the challenges presented to them for 40 000 years.

If you are just venting say so, so ppl like me and others can stop wasting time trying to help.

You have three ways to counter him. All three are viable, but depending on your deck, some are more viable than others.

A) Play wide with multiple big threats via ramp or discount effects. Zoo right now is very powerful at doing this as they can attack two lanes at the same time with +10 power via Dazzler and Antman, Gilgamesh, Mockingbird and Ultron.

B) Play combo decks like Surfer or Mr. Negative or Tribunal. These decks typically always flip second due to their set up having low power, but they have explosive turn 6s that usually win the game by itself.

C) Play protection cards like Armor, Cosmo and Caiera. These protect your big boys and also syngerize with Ongoing buffs.
