Reading this as someone who is a day 1 Onslaught stan who has run like base level Onslaught as a deck to get him to infinite every season is humorous.

You haven't even seen how atrocious pay 2 win can get if this is the worst you've seen. Hell, I would argue any other card game is worse but I've not played some of the other online only ones like Hearthstone, so I could be wrong.

I do have some gripes about card collection though, especially if you're a newer player. I can imagine it's probably very painful to be a newer player.

Sounds like its your first Gacha game. It's alot of snappers first gacha style game. Thats the business model, and as far as gacha games go this one is on the cheap side.

Gacha games can get very, very expensive. That's why you see genshin impact and gacha games like it making 100,000,000+ million in a single event weekend on the mobile sales boards. That's what snap made in its first year, they do it in a single banner weekend.

wan's there a survey while back that asks 'has the new cards helped you win more games'?

pretty sure it's baked in the MMR to favor decks with new cards
the whole matchmaking and card draws are rigged as af

honestly this game is super not pay2win, you can get to infinite with any deck that has win conditions.

its actually a really really well made card game where pool 2 cards can beat a full deck of pool 3+ cards. Earnestly if you think you need to buy anything then you're bad at card games since this is a very very very good "baby's first card game" (this isn't a bad thing part of its ease of entry or ease of understanding what a card does at a glance is impressive)

Every time i hit infinite (and the few times i've been in top 1k players, the only time i'm not in the top 1k players is when i'm not hard grinding the game for rank as thats the only way to stay up that high) has been with off meta and outdated decks. You really really really do not need to play anything near meta to win alot and you do not need to buy anything to win. In fact playing the meta will often make most players lose more because they aren't learning how to play better and they're running a deck every good player knows back to front because its just 12 cards. Tribunal is a joke to beat when you know its coming with something as simple as enchantress popped at the right time (not to mention the 4 other cards that can do the same thing) The game is more about player creativity and skill than most card games. Also it helps to not see a smart escape as a loss. If you fold in poker you didn't lose, you only "lose" by staying in to a hand for too long and losing more than you should have.

TLDR: work on understanding the game more, you can hit infinite+ with only pool 2 cards when you know what you're doing. Literally the only people who need to buy anything are content creators to keep up with the cards coming out so they can cover them.

edit to add i've only ever bought the starter pack, the pass (the first and last battle pass card i've actually used was hitmonkey who i still play regularly, But yeah most of the battle pass cards just go to my collection and stay there), and like... the asgard card backs (which do not help me win and i spent the resources that came with them on variants, which does not help me win.)

People who know me here, know my take on gacha, and how I feel about it in game.
Have to remember who made it Antman! This is Brody, and Hearthstone, so nothing should surprise you my man.
Listen, I have played f2p since inception, high meta, have all the cards and pretty much end game, no one is more positive and supportive on this board, but I am also a realist.

Play the game for what it is, and not what it is not.
Nothing is real, there is nothing you win, or lose, you are not a disadvantage for something you don't have, you play within your rank and player level, that simple.

It will tempt your FOMO urges for things that are not real. If you understand that, then who gives a blank what the lots are. I hoard all resources to massive levels, but that is me.
It is not arrogance to understand that no matter how much you gripe. There is always someone who will use their money how they wish. I am warned that the 99 dollar lots were coming to who cares. People will buy them.
You bet the lots are perverted, why not, to them its illusionary bs. I happen to agree that the gold lots for the past 4 months have been unfair and stupid, why I passed, but that is what they will pull to get you to bite, to steal those hard earned resources.

Play the game free, if you need help or tips, great community here of good people who will give sound advice. You will have tons of variants from a ton of different ways.
Gold to me me is a vital resource that they will be stingy offering, but doing your dailies, taken advantage of stacking tokens, keys, and gold gives you FREE player choice. You will not be able to get everything, but you will maybe once or twice a year, get that lot you wanted. Get variants in spotlights, caches, just for playing conquest.

Its cosmetic bs.

I feel sorry for new players starting this game by the end of the year. Peace my brother. :dwarven:

Which is honestly wild, because those games aren't even competitive. If you're just playing them for the main story and events, you can roll on whatever shiny banner you want and eat through all the high-budget cutscenes and music and voiced storylines you want for totally free; the only reason to really spend so much is min-maxing for the little side content that requires two high-grade combat teams, and the reward for that is mostly just more roll currency.

The game dedinitely gives an advantage to those who pay more, the series 4/5 cards tend to be more powerful and most of the meta relies around them, aside from a few series 3 staples such as Sera.

The more credits/tokens you buy, the more cards you can unlock which allows you to quickly adapt to the meta.

I play custom games with my brother sometimes and we use a draft website and the game is so much more fun. It only becomes less fun when specific series 4/5 cards get drafted because they are head & shoulders above other cards and you can feel the power swing.

I get what you’re saying and yeah it is a little pay 2 win. But you know what? It’s not an e-sport. Hell , half your opponents are probably bots, so you really shouldn’t take this game seriously.

stop playing
Raisins May 27, 2024 @ 11:16am
It has gotten worse with time, but I gotta say, this last season's pass is the real joke. I'm about to give my money to effin' Diablo 4's pass instead of this bullsh!t.

While the prices are way too high for what you get, The thing I hate the most about Marvel Snap is how you acquire cards. It has to be the most unfun thing I've done in a game. It's what makes me think about quitting on a weekly basis.

don't waste ur energy, these people (gacha players) will defend any toxic monetization till their dying breath.

I mean every ccg has rough monetization. The only ones that didn't Gwent and Runeterra failed cause they gave away too much for free. They shot themselves in the foot with how little people needed to spend. Snap is better to try to get everything in then say magic arena. That will set you back 2-3k to have everything currently in Standard since they went to a 3 year rotation. And expect to drop 200-300 for a full set of new cards every 3 months once you are set complete.

Point is Monetization in all ccgs is ♥♥♥♥. Snap just happens to be a bit better in a few regards. At least when trying to have a full collection. If we compare trying to have just one meta deck to play with and building from there. Other ccgs with their crafting systems may come ahead. I say may mainly cause Destroy and High Evo are both meta decks that are not too hard to come by. So then you have the same problem as all other ccgs if you don't spend alot. Playing the same deck over and over till you're sick of it.

I admire your frugal spending! I'm a sucker for the variants... Like the idea of a full venomized destroy deck :flame:
