Mush Room suggestion
> SPOILERS FOR THE MUSH ROOM! <

To preface, I played and S ranked this game on Xbox, not steam. I absolutely love this game, it is superb! Immaculate vibes, gameplay and great characters all around. I'm not usually one to 100% complete games and hunt achievements and secrets, but I just had to for this. It was that good. Chef's kiss!

But the Mush Room just kind of stood out like a sore thumb for me. The setup is great. Figuring out which mushrooms are poisonous and which ones are harmless is a fun process to go through. Very good setup!

After figuring that I assumed you would only have to eat the harmless ones for the secret to unlock, and yet that wasn't the answer. Turns out you have to eat them all and essentially tank the damage of the bad mushrooms and you are forced to use healing items, which can be detrimental for those trying to achieve a high ranking.

What I'm suggesting is, to change the puzzle in a manner, that you'd have to figure out a sequence in which to eat all of them. Instead of the harmless mushrooms doing nothing, they could counteract the bad mushrooms, essentially a sort of situational healing item. The scroll on the wall that describes the names of the harmless mushrooms could be altered to say that the good harmless mushrooms have healing properties, to clue the player in on their effect.

There are 6 mushrooms in the room, 3 good and 3 bad, so the sequence would go;

Poison mush
v
Heal mush
v
Poison mush
v
Heal mush
v
Poison mush
v
Heal mush

That way you could apply all the information you gained from the setup of the puzzle and walk out with minimal health loss and a satisfying solution.

Alternatively, you could make it so that you only have to eat the harmless mushrooms.

As it is right now, the puzzle has a great setup, but a lackluster, unsatisfying and dare I say slightly disappointing resolution.

All this to say that I truly loved my time with the game and will be coming back. One of this years gaming gems for sure!

Agree, I used pen and paper to write which one is Blusher, Morel and Shiitake.
And then i still have to eat the poisonous mushroom?
Just weird design:steamfacepalm:
Yeah, I looked up the solution once I ate the three correct mushrooms because I thought the game just bugged out on me. Kinda pointless to have the scrolls on the wall once you realize what you really have to do.

very true. I had to leave and save the game just in case eating them all didn't make a difference. The game says three of them are deadly, it's not very intuitive to eat them regardless...

Yeah just got to this part and it's an obvious bug/ommission or something. There is no reason you'd even put the clues there if there was nothing more to it than "do it all, and just deal with it".

Completely agree, i figured that eating the good ones was the way to go but turns out the solution is eating all of them? Doesnt make sense compared to the rest of the puzzle's that have a more logical process.

Agree with everyone else - I assumed this was a puzzle where you needed to eat the safe mushrooms and leave or toss away the poison ones. I figured the poison ones would be an instant kill so didn't even bother trying them until I got the secrets map and couldn't think of anything else to try to find the one in that room.

Dang, so that's how you were supposed to do it. I ate the 3 good mushrooms and didn't understand what I was missing. I never thought to eat the deadly mushrooms, as I felt that having to do that would defeat the whole point of the puzzle...

All the puzzles are sadly the weakest point of the game. They straight up give you the answer to most puzzles so there's barely any thought required. Love the game otherwise.

Agree that a lot of notes should be removed to make it harder to guess what should be done, e.g. flooded area with NWSE and turning heads, howling bird to open Haunted Manor etc.

I just wrote down all the notes and infos from the scrolls and the mushroom king thanks to Steams Note feature. If you do this then only one mushroom to eat seems safe which I thought is the solution. Once I did this I only lost health. I've never would've have come to the conclusion to eat them all. So yes this puzzle really suffers from bad design IMHO :steamdeadpan: Otherwise this game is great! :steamlaughcry:

Agreed. Had to look this one up to see what I was doing wrong.

The notes should have only been in exploration mode save for ones for puzzles that aren't intuitive.

The trident puzzle stood out as one that straight up tells you the answer 100%, which is weird.

Can't be worse than the slider puzzle with the answer directly written in a corner of the room. :/

Funnily enough, the some of the optional puzzles are some of the hardest. The Octopus scale one was pretty funny. I thought I needed to find the numbers around the room, like 1 on the swan and two 8's, one for the bird and octopus itself, but couldn't find a fourth number in the room.

When I finally looked it up, I felt like an idiot for over complicating it.

This was the only secret in the game where I needed a guide to get it. Because I solved the puzzle with my notes, only to find out there was no puzzle and you just had to tank the mushrooms damage with items or by running back and forth to the healing pond in case you want to beat the game with 0 healing items used.

I hope this is just some kind of bug or oversight and not how the developer intended this "puzzle" to go. It's the only puzzle I had to look up, I was legitimately worried that I encountered a bug when I ate all the safe mushrooms and nothing happened.
