Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2

Valid grievances with Realism Redux, however I may have been too harsh
Man this is a rough one. I saw so many people recommending this mod for bug fixes and added realism but it's really just been kicking me in the balls the whole time. I know when you download mods it's typically expected you can't complain about the bugs that extend from them, but I figured since one of the main appeals of Redux is bug fixing it would... you know fix bugs and not cause them. Since I've installed it I've been dealing with crashing and gameplay bugs galore that weren't present on the playthrough I started before installing. Some of the ones that really burn my toast...

Enemies now don't need to be looking at you to shoot you. I'd engage from a treeline, and then disappear from their line of sight. A few times it felt a little cheap but it came from off camera so I figured hey maybe they just had a bead on me. Then I managed to sneak into a bush closer, and watched the enemy round the corner. They were still directly fixed on the place where I was and shouting, "Come on out of there!" so I assumed I had got away with it. That was until the bullets came out of the side of his shotgun, completely eviscerating me. I tried it again, and got the exact same results. Since then it's been more noticeable in open areas that bullets simply fly out of whatever direction is needed to hit me, regardless of where the enemy is positioned. To be honest this might be vanilla Far Cry 2 behavior, but if it is I had never noticed it before in 30 hours of gameplay. It might be compounded by the fact that player accuracy is ridiculously diminished in this mod. I routinely have an enemy in my sights, and will fire at them (while keeping them in my sights) only for them to play a duck animation but receive no damage. I've gone through entire mags at enemies that weren't even engaging me or were firing too slowly for me to bother to move and was incredulous that every shot missed despite having their body within sights.

The door bug, also happened to me with Redux. Again, I'd never had this issue in 30 hours of playing this game, but suddenly, going into faction headquarters has me phasing through the door, and when I come out, boom unable to equip weapons. When this happened to me, I had noticed and had driven across the map to my objective. When I left the safehouse I was in, a new set of guards had spawned at the safehouse I was at and after being blind for a few seconds completely dismantled me while I furiously tapped my hotkeys.

I've had all kinds of other bugs, from missions being unable to be completed, buddies not being able to be revived, floating guns, and oh yeah the crashing every hour or so. I know for most people Far Cry 2 is buggy, but this has turned my fully functioning install of it, into a buggy mess that I've had to play around. And for what benefit I'm not quite sure. Sure the colors look pretty I guess, but now I'm dealing with my guy deciding to put his weapons away when he heals or picks stuff up, having to stop because the sprint "toggle" locks on permanently until you stop moving. And that seems to be the only thing it's done (except thankfully decrease the manhunt level of patrolling that was going on during missions as every faction signs a ceasefire to agree to kill the player character during vanilla gameplay).

Never heard of anything wrong with Redux or R+R. You're attributing quite a bit
that may be due to your system set up (or possibly hallucinations) and nothing
to do with the mod at all.

Are you by any chance related to Danny h ?? - You sound just like him. - No offense
intended.. (unless you are him).

I would be less likely to attribute these bugs to the mod if they were present in the game before I had installed it. But as it is my game ran fine and upon installing it for the outpost fixing, boom tons of bugs. I think it's poor practice to recommend this mod to people, it's changes to the gameplay make it a lot more frustrating, especially to new players who might not realize what's going on. I could find very little benefit to using it over, just a mod who's sole purpose would be fixing those outpost mechanics.

The increased damage to enemies doesn't seem to work with them still routinely taking 5 or so rounds to the chest (headshots were always instant kills in vanilla but with the debuff to player weapon accuracy they're a lot harder to hit now). The "upgraded weapon icons" don't look to great with the weird black squares over them. I also seemingly experienced an decrease in LOD distance, this is weird because the mod specifically says it expands it, but instead I have to be right on top of bridges to actually see the definitions in their planks. Idk. Currently I'm so frustrated as to believe the mod I downloaded to maybe have been corrupted during download, because the amount of issues it has seems almost antithetical to installing it in the first place.
Like I said. - In what must now be thousands of users I've never heard any complaints
remotely related to what you've stated.

Did you start a new game when using the mod?

Are you using a legit 1.03 version of the game?

Are you launching via the Multi-Fixer every time?

The weird enemy aiming thing is a Far Cry 2 bug, and not related to the mod. AFAIK, no mod has fixed this relatively uncommon visual bug.

Player accuracy has not been altered in R+R. Only damage and range have been increased.

I've fully tested the game multiple times with the mod, and haven't encountered any bugged missions, or the other bugs you mentioned.

It's very rare that people have a buggier experience with R+R than the original game.

Do you have any gameplay recordings of these bugs? Is there a specific place that the mod crashes for you?

What weird black squares are you referring to?

It does sound like something was corrupted or incorrect installed. The things you're describing are not in any official version of the mod (Mod DB or Nexus).

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes, it automatically pops up when I launch the game through steam
4. Then perhaps I just never noticed, it's far less noticeable with my usual sniping, but far from uncommon.
5. If damage has been increased it's by an extremely marginal amount. Enemies routinely take half mags of hits without going down. More than once I've been killed because my gun only had 10 rounds left and even when hitting all shots enemies only stagger for a moment before unloading on me with a SPAS-12 or USAS which nearly every enemy carries now with the "rebalance" of weapons.
6. Which makes this all the more frustrating considering
7. See 6
8. No recordings, I'm not too quick on the draw. I do however have a screenshot of an enemy in my ironsights whom I emptied 3 mags into and flinched while being shot at but never died.
9. On the weapon pickup icons. Some rifles and grenades have weird black boxes in a grid pattern over the weapon pickup icon.
10. I got it from Moddb

If you can provide a screenshot of #9 I'd like to see it. I've never heard of this visual bug.

I'm not sure what to make of the other issues. That's not the experience I have, and not what I hear from other players.

Maybe Scubrahs patch would be a more stable experience for you?
I'm just curious.. and I doubt it will help but I keep wondering; Have you yet mentioned
your OS ? Vid Card and drivers? - Anything in either peripherals, hardware or software
that makes your system in any way unique from others?

- There has to be some reason besides the install and configuration that your system
is interpreting the mod differently than so many others.

Windows 11 on up to date hardware with drivers. Maybe that is the issue? When I played before it was on a Windows 8 machine with an extremely budget graphics card and I played with heavily reduced settings. But I'm sure Windows has fudged some stuff up since then. That being said, before I installed the realism redux I was playing a little vanilla on this machine and it was acting fine. That being said, it's only the APR door that's being weird and I sided with the UFLL. I wasn't however getting the crashing issue.

Thanks very much for all this info. - I do have one question.

When you said "playing a 'little'" would that be a couple of hours, or more like halfway
through the game? Some bugs don't always appear in the first few hours and there are
a few that don't until late in the game. - A number of the bugs you mentioned exist in
the unmodded vanilla game.

Also, in my limited readings on the subject of Win 11 and FC2 - it seems that FC2
either works fine or doesn't run at all. - You have it running with mods (albeit with
bugs). - That suggests to me that here's something in your win 11 config affecting
the code commands the mod is calling for.

- You could try examining your startup progs and deactivate anything that isn't
necessary for a fully functioning system. -Don't mess with anything you're
unsure of.

- When testing launch from your executable instead of through steam or any
online account. - You seem determined and these mods working correctly are
great improvements to the whole experience. - Hope you find a solution

I did say 4 or so missions, a UFLL, an assassination, resistance, some buddy stuff. So maybe that's just it. So far I've been getting on okay with just constant quicksaving. As long as I stick to that, the game boots quick enough so crashes are just an excuse to get some water or something. I've got everything but my anti-virus disabled in start-up. Maybe that's what's having a go at it. It's not annoying enough to disable that. Truth be told it's clearly not annoying enough for me to have resumed a vanilla playthrough.
you could disable it, disconnect your net feed and play offline to test. If bugs
persist you've eliminated antivirus from the problem list. - No bugs=prob solved..
